The Miami Project is offering an exciting opportunity for a Full-Time Laboratory Research Specialist 1 to join the UHealth team. This role involves supporting research initiatives within the designated division by executing laboratory experiments related to specific research projects. The individual in this position will aim to enhance their expertise through ongoing education, training, and research activities.

  • Engage in a research program focused on discovering innovative therapeutics to facilitate axon regeneration and neuroprotection following central nervous system injuries.
  • Collaborate as a vital member of a research team utilizing gene therapy and cell-based methodologies to promote neurorepair and functional recovery, contributing to the development and clinical application of treatments for spinal cord, nerve, and brain injuries.
  • Apply knowledge in Neuroscience, Biochemistry, Cell Biology, or Molecular Biology to execute techniques and protocols, as well as to design and troubleshoot experiments.
  • Conduct procedures and analyses related to histological and behavioral evaluations of animals post-spinal cord injury, including animal surgeries (laminectomy, tracing, cell transplantation), post-operative care, perfusion, tissue dissection, sectioning, staining, and behavioral assessments of sensory and motor functions, along with fluorescent and confocal microscopy and tissue culture.
  • Implement biochemistry, immunochemistry, and molecular biology techniques, such as cell and tissue staining, western blotting, gel electrophoresis, and ELISA.
  • Manage transgenic mouse colonies, perform genotyping, and coordinate breeding programs for the mice.
  • The role may require after-hours and weekend responsibilities related to animal care and management.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field.
  • No prior experience is required.
