Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and organized Special Events Coordinator to join our team at the City of Fort Wayne's Riverfront division. The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating and planning programs and events for the Riverfront division, as well as assisting with Parks and Recreation activities as required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and plan programs and events for the Riverfront division, including but not limited to, planning, setup, and teardown.
  • Provide high-quality customer service to program and event participants, and the general public.
  • Assist with boating operations as needed, including but not limited to, boat preparation, passenger instruction, distribution of materials, distribution and collection of surveys, and ensuring passenger and/or participant safety.
  • Present information in a positive and enthusiastic manner as directed about Riverfront Fort Wayne, Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation, and other program areas as directed.
  • Lead Riverfront programs such as walking tours, field trips, boat tours, paddling programs, excursions, and other programs as directed.
  • Assist with determining and securing resources needed, including facilities, staff, equipment, supplies, instructors, etc.
  • Monitor, supervise, and evaluate activities, as well as instruct volunteers, and any subordinate staff.
  • Research, plan, develop, coordinate, and implement riverfront programs, including lesson plans, budget, equipment, displays, exhibits, and evaluations.
  • Prepare and submit reports as needed.
  • Enforce Parks and Recreation Department rules, and adhere to Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation, City of Fort Wayne policies and procedures.
  • Recruit, schedule, supervise, and train volunteers, as required.
  • Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment.
  • Deposit monies in accordance with Parks and Recreation policies and procedures.
  • Maintain file of images (digital and other forms) to be used for website and other promotions.
  • Talk to a wide variety of participants and group sizes.
  • Communicate in a professional manner with staff, volunteers, employees, participants, and the general public.
  • Assist with rentals as needed, including booking, opening, closing, etc.
  • Assist with determining and securing resources needed, including facilities, staff, equipment, supplies, instructors, etc.
  • Assist in creation of marketing materials for programs.
  • Lead development of new Riverfront programs, as needed.
  • Stay up to date with changing Riverfront information, including but not limited to: riparian initiatives, development projects, and historical and ecological information.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proficiently familiar with Riverfronts Fort Waynes Mission, long range plans, and other relevant program areas.
  • Proficiently familiar with various riverfront topics such as ecology, history, and other areas as directed.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software, including Word, Excel, and Power Point.
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective leadership and role model relationship with participants.
  • Experience with paddle and motorized boats, preferred.
