Job Summary

The Payroll Administrator II is a key member of the Payroll Department, responsible for ensuring the timely and accurate processing of weekly payroll for 6 multi-state companies and their employees. This role requires strong analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities
  • Process payroll for 6 multi-state companies and their employees
  • Audit automated and manual timecards for payroll processing
  • Export and import timecard information from timecard software into payroll software
  • Calculate hours, tax withholdings, deductions, bonuses, and union fringes
  • Complete monthly, quarterly, and yearly payroll reporting
  • Be cross-trained as a backup to process weekly payroll and other payroll-related items
  • Create and process electronic payroll files for submission to generate direct deposits and payroll checks
  • Post and monitor child support payments and wage garnishments for employees
  • Review and enter labor allocations reported on timecards
  • Prepare termination and check adjustments
  • Handle employee inquiries regarding payroll checks or deductions on their paychecks
  • Coordinate with the HR department to ensure the correct employee data is on file
  • Process monthly union fringe reports for payment
  • Support the department with developing, receiving, reviewing, and processing information for a variety of departmental, state, and federal mandated, and statistical reports and records
  • Verify accuracy and completion of reports and records
  • Maintain accurate records
  • Coordinate year-end processes
  • Maintain employee confidence and protect payroll operations by keeping information confidential
Qualifications
  • Understanding of union/non-union and prevailing wage payroll
  • Demonstrates flexibility to effectively deal with changing priorities and timelines through analytical problem-solving
  • Proven time management and follow-through skills with the ability to work on multiple tasks with tight deadlines
  • Current knowledge of applicable federal and state wage and hour laws and taxation
  • Ability to work both independently and in a collaborative team-oriented environment
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, set priorities, and meet deadlines in a high-volume, fast-paced environment
  • Display superior written and oral communication skills and effective listening skills
  • Maintain a tactful, mature, and professional demeanor with well-developed interpersonal skills, including the ability to work with diverse personnel
Education and Experience
  • Previous payroll experience with multi-state companies, particularly in CA, in a high-volume environment with a medium to large-sized company
  • A minimum of 5 years' union/prevailing wage payroll experience in a leadership role
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business or Accounting preferred
  • Certified Payroll Professional preferred
