Role Overview

As the Trust and Safety Manager at NewsBreak, you will report directly to the Director of Trust and Safety. Your main responsibility will be to ensure the safety, integrity, and compliance of our platform with community standards and legal obligations. You will design and execute strategies to maintain trust and safety across all facets of our platform, including content moderation, user conduct, and interactions with third parties. This position is essential for preserving a positive user experience and minimizing risks associated with harmful content or activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Trust and Safety Strategy: Assist in the development and implementation of Trust and Safety strategies and tactics to guarantee platform safety, integrity, and adherence to community standards and legal requirements.
  • Content Moderation: Supervise content moderation processes, including AI models and human reviews (including Quality Assurance analysis), to ensure compliance with community guidelines and ethical standards.
  • User Behavior Analysis: Examine user behavior patterns and trends to identify and address potential risks or violations of community guidelines or terms of service.
  • Policy Development: Collaborate with legal and policy teams to create and update platform policies, guidelines, and enforcement procedures.
  • Incident Response: Lead incident response initiatives for trust and safety-related matters, including escalation, investigation, and resolution.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with content, advertising, product, engineering, legal, and customer support teams to effectively address trust and safety issues.
  • Training and Education: Develop training programs and resources for internal teams and external partners on best practices for trust and safety.
  • Performance Metrics: Monitor and analyze key performance metrics related to trust and safety, providing insights and recommendations for ongoing improvement.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as Computer Science, Information Technology, Communications, Journalism, Political Science, or a related discipline. Advanced degrees or certifications are advantageous.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in trust and safety, content moderation, or a related field, preferably within the digital media or technology sector. Preferred experience includes working in startups, user support, risk management, or QA analyst roles.
  • Strong data analysis skills, adaptability, creative problem-solving abilities, and effective cross-functional communication are essential. Ability to work independently and occasionally during unconventional hours is required, along with a passion for ensuring internet safety.
  • Desirable skills include vendor management, familiarity with engineering terminology, and resilience in handling challenging situations.
  • Understanding of the content landscape, interest in news, and knowledge of abuse vectors and methods for identifying and mitigating their presence.
  • Proactive, detail-oriented, collaborative, with a strong sense of integrity and accountability.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is listed below. Pay may vary based on a number of factors including job-related skills, level, experience, geographic location, and relevant education or training. At NewsBreak, we design our overall rewards package to attract top talent. Depending on the position, the role may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses and options. Annual Base Pay Range: $82,000—$128,000 USD
