Role Overview
As the Trust and Safety Operations Lead at NewsBreak, you will report directly to the Director of Trust and Safety. Your primary responsibility will be to guarantee the safety, integrity, and compliance of our platform with community standards and legal obligations. You will devise and execute strategies to maintain trust and safety across all facets of our platform, including content moderation, user behavior, and interactions with third parties. This position is vital for ensuring a positive user experience and minimizing risks associated with harmful content or activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategy Development: Assist in formulating and implementing Trust and Safety strategies and tactics to uphold platform safety, integrity, and compliance with community standards and legal requirements.
- Content Oversight: Supervise content moderation processes, incorporating AI models and human review (including Quality Assurance analysis) to ensure adherence to community guidelines and ethical standards.
- User Behavior Monitoring: Examine user behavior patterns and trends to identify and address potential risks or violations of community guidelines or terms of service.
- Policy Formulation: Collaborate with legal and policy teams to create and update platform policies, guidelines, and enforcement procedures.
- Incident Management: Lead response efforts for trust and safety-related incidents, including escalation, investigation, and resolution.
- Cross-Department Collaboration: Work closely with content, advertising, product, engineering, legal, and customer support teams to effectively address trust and safety issues.
- Training Development: Create training programs and resources for internal teams and external partners on best practices for trust and safety.
- Performance Analysis: Monitor and evaluate key performance metrics related to trust and safety, providing insights and recommendations for ongoing improvement.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Computer Science, Information Technology, Communications, Journalism, Political Science, or a related discipline. Advanced degrees or certifications are advantageous.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in trust and safety, content moderation, or a related field, preferably within the digital media or technology sectors. Experience in startups, user support, risk management, or QA analyst roles is preferred.
- Strong data analysis skills, adaptability, creative problem-solving abilities, and effective cross-functional communication are essential. The ability to work independently and occasionally during unconventional hours is also required, along with a passion for ensuring online safety.
- Desirable skills include vendor management, familiarity with engineering terminology, and resilience in handling challenging situations.
- Understanding of the content landscape, interest in news, and knowledge of abuse vectors and methods for identifying and mitigating their presence are beneficial.
- Proactive, detail-oriented, collaborative, with a strong sense of integrity and accountability.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is listed below. Pay may vary based on various factors including job-related skills, level, experience, geographic location, and relevant education or training. At NewsBreak, we design our overall rewards package to attract top talent. Depending on the position, the role may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses and options. Annual Base Pay Range: $82,000—$128,000 USD
