About the Role

Sentry is committed to delivering exceptional service to our clients, and this is reflected in the caliber of our associates. We are in search of a skilled, self-driven individual to join our team as a Territory Underwriting Specialist.

In this role, you will be responsible for marketing and underwriting Sentry's offerings to select independent agents and brokers within a designated region.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain relationships with agents and brokers.
  • Solicit new accounts through selected independent agents and brokers.
  • Assess, underwrite, and price potential accounts to independent agents.
  • Act as the primary liaison for assigned agents and brokers.
  • Provide expert sales support to enhance production through agency channels.
  • Collaborate with agents and brokers to resolve issues efficiently.
Additional Duties

Engage with appointed commercial lines independent agents and respond to inquiries from prospective clients. You will also be responsible for identifying potential new agencies, coordinating agency appointments, and evaluating agency performance.

Analyze the quality and quantity of risks underwritten and manage a portfolio of business within your authority limits. Initiate and execute market development strategies aimed at improving market segmentation, penetration, sales, and profitability.

Evaluate prospective accounts and independent agencies to determine their suitability and work closely with management, Underwriting, Loss Control, and Claims to assess risk acceptability and necessary services.

What You Bring
  • A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience.
  • A minimum of 5 years of multi-line middle market underwriting experience, particularly in construction, manufacturing, wholesale, real estate, and service sectors.
  • Familiarity with the Dallas/Fort Worth market and existing relationships with larger independent agents is preferred.
  • Previous technical insurance experience, ideally with a sales background.
  • Experience in underwriting large, complex accounts.
  • Outstanding communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong business development and pipeline management abilities.
  • Willingness to travel for business development activities, including agent office visits and safety inspections.
  • A valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
