Position Overview

The Administrative and Acquisitions Assistant at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Press will play a crucial role in supporting the editorial director by managing various departmental administrative functions and assisting in the oversight of project management for the book program focused on trade science.

Key Responsibilities
  • Organize and schedule departmental meetings.
  • Coordinate materials for weekly proposal committee sessions.
  • Provide comprehensive support to the acquisitions department.
  • Assist in pivotal stages of project development for approximately five to eight book projects annually.
  • Collaborate with authors and MIT Press staff to ensure effective review and consideration of project proposals and manuscripts, as well as facilitate the manuscript production process.

Qualifications
Required:

High school diploma or equivalent, a minimum of three years of administrative experience, exceptional organizational and communication skills, proficient administrative computer skills (e.g., MS Word, FileMaker, Excel, PowerPoint), capability to coordinate and prioritize multiple tasks effectively, discretion and judgment regarding confidential information, meticulous attention to detail, self-motivation, and ability to work collaboratively in teams when necessary.


Preferred:

Bachelor's degree in a related field, experience in publishing, engagement with diverse or underrepresented communities in STEM fields, and a willingness to apply this knowledge in the publishing context, along with academic or professional experience in computer science and/or education and learning.


Work Environment
The MIT Press offers a hybrid work model, requiring the candidate to be present in the Cambridge, MA office at least one day per week. Commuting expenses are not reimbursed, aside from standard commuting benefits available to all MIT employees.
