Catering Associate II

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Catering Associate II to join our team at Methodist Hospitals. As a key member of our Food and Nutrition Services department, you will play a vital role in ensuring the highest level of patient satisfaction and care.
Key Responsibilities- Assist patients with menu selections, tray assembly, and delivery, ensuring accurate and timely service.
- Collaborate with the dietitian to monitor patients with special dietary needs, such as NPO or liquid diets.
- Conduct quality checks on patient trays to ensure menu compliance, accuracy, and completeness.
- Provide training and support to current and future employees on computer system functions, including diet definitions, floor stock process, and par levels.
- Assume responsibility for allergy tracking, food temperature logs, and unit refrigerator logs, maintaining compliance with hospital policies and regulations.
- Contribute to quality service reflected in internal or external patient satisfaction survey results.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and nursing staff regarding food-related issues and concerns.
- Complete spoken menu process with patients, ensuring clear understanding of dietary needs and preferences.
- Interact with nursing staff to address patient nutrition needs and unit food service requirements.
- Perform service recovery as needed, addressing patient complaints and concerns in a courteous and professional manner.
- React accurately and effectively to changes, ensuring efficient timing of services and accuracy of physician-ordered modified diets.
- Understand and apply dietary restrictions on special and modified diets to ensure optimal food preferences are met within guidelines.
- Operate the hospital computer system to generate reports, menus, and labels, as well as the EMR system to clarify patient location, orders, and receive information.
- Distribute and collect menus by unit daily, keying selections into the hospital computer system while maintaining a timely schedule.
- Utilize the write-in list as necessary, and contact isolation patients by telephone regarding menu choices.
- Inventories, gathers, and delivers par level supplies accurately to designated nursing units, using par level forms and following the established schedule.
- Inspect refrigerators in unit pantries daily, assessing cleanliness, labeling, dating, and rotating of stock, storage of employee foods, placement of thermometer, and proper temperature maintenance.
- Tally special items needed for each meal, handling patient complaints in a courteous manner.
- Check all trays assembled on the Tray line in a timely fashion for accuracy, appearance, and cleanliness, recording the number of trays served on each unit.
- Demonstrate full understanding and knowledge of job functions by passing a basic skills test of dietetic.
- Demonstrate knowledge of modified diets, proper condiments, and related restrictions for diets based on passing a written test provided by clinical staff.
- Demonstrate knowledge of infection control and sanitation with food temperatures, refrigeration temperatures, hand washing, use of gloves, and dating of food.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, proficient in basic mathematical skills.
- Ability to problem-solve independently, read, write, and speak English (or other languages as necessary).
- Able to concentrate on fine detail with constant interruptions on a continuous basis, understand and relate to specific ideas, generally several at a time, on a continuous basis.
- Able to remember multiple tasks/assignments generally several at a time given to self and others over long periods of time on a frequent and continuous basis.
- Requires a minimum six months education in diet office terminology and computer skills.
Education: High School Diploma/GED Equivalent Required. 6 months of working experience as Food Service Worker I or Catering Associate I is required. 1 Healthcare/Medical Required. 0.5 Food Services Required.
