About the Role

The Safety Coordinator at Ohio Gratings, Inc. is responsible for overseeing the organization's safety and training programs, ensuring a safe working environment, and maintaining compliance with safety and health procedures and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and Implement Safety Policies: Collaborate with management to create, prepare, and implement safety and training policies and procedures.
  • Conduct Safety Inspections: Act as a first responder to safety incidents and emergencies on the production floor and within the facility.
  • Coordinate Safety Programs: Coordinate safety programs to promote and ensure a safe working environment.
  • Conduct Training Sessions: Conduct safety interactions and training sessions with the production team to reinforce safe work practices.
  • Review and Update SOPs and JSAs: Develop, review, and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Job Safety Analyses (JSAs).
  • Inspect Fire Equipment: Inspect fire extinguishers monthly and all other fire protection equipment to ensure they are in proper working order.
  • Maintain Safety Files: Maintain files and documentation related to safety inspections and operations.
  • Oversee Permit Processes: Oversee permit processes, issuing special permits for regulated activities such as enclosed space entry, welding operations, and the transport of hazardous materials.
  • Stay Up-to-Date on Regulations: Maintain current knowledge of applicable government compliance regulations, including those from OSHA and the Department of Defense (DOD).
  • Conduct Safety Audits: Conduct safety audits and inspections, and accompany agency staff during safety, fire, and physical audits throughout the facility.
  • Evaluate Safety Programs: Evaluate the effectiveness of safety programs and recommend revisions, improvements, and updates.
  • Identify Opportunities for Improvement: Identify opportunities to minimize workplace injuries, accidents, and health problems.
  • Share Safety Information: Share environmental safety information with appropriate levels within the organization.
  • Prepare Departmental Budget: Prepare and implement the departmental budget.
  • Ensure Compliance: Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local safety laws, regulations, codes, and rules.
  • Lead Safety Committee Meetings: Conduct safety committee meetings to discuss safety concerns and improvements.
Requirements
  • Excellent Management Skills: Excellent management and supervisory skills.
  • Extensive Knowledge of Security Protocols: Extensive knowledge of security protocols and emergency preparedness.
  • Knowledge of Company Safety Policies: Extensive knowledge of company safety policies and applicable OSHA standards.
  • Strong Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent Interpersonal Skills: Excellent interpersonal skills with a proven ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with federal, state, and local regulatory agency staff.
  • Excellent Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to Conduct Training Sessions: Ability to conduct engaging and effective training sessions.
  • Excellent Organizational Skills: Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office: Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
Education and Experience
  • Associate's Degree in EHS or Business Management: Associate's degree in EHS (Environmental Health and Safety) or Business Management required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • At Least Five Years of Safety Experience: At least five years of safety experience required.
  • Advanced Training or Certification in Safety: Advanced training or certification in safety required.
  • OSHA Certification: OSHA certification required.
Physical Requirements
  • Prolonged Sitting and Computer Work: Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Lifting Up to 25 Pounds: Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.
  • Travel Throughout the Facility: Ability to travel throughout the facility as required to conduct safety inspections.
