Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Orthopaedic Trauma Surgeon to join our team at the Commonwealth of Virginia. As a key member of our department, you will be responsible for providing exceptional clinical care to patients, educating the next generation of orthopaedic surgeons, and contributing to the advancement of orthopaedic knowledge through research.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teaching and Education: Staff inpatient housestaff teaching service with learners including medical students, interns, and residents. Utilize contemporary adult learning methods to promote evidence-based practice and demonstrate effective teaching skills.
  • Research and Scholarship: Participate in clinical and administrative research, according to skills, interest, and funding. Opportunities may include performance improvement initiatives or formal extramurally funded investigations. Maintain a level of scholarship in Orthopaedic Surgery consistent with academic rank.
  • Service and Leadership: Work with institutional staff and administration to attain the strategic objectives of the Commonwealth of Virginia, including patient safety, patient and other customer satisfaction, maintenance and enhancement of public perception, and fiscal health.
  • Clinical Care: Admit and manage patients who present through the orthopaedic trauma service, co-management of patients on other services, triage medicine patients requiring admission in the Emergency Department, and non-medical services and non-VCU hospitals. Ensure compliance with all institutional policies for professional work, including credentialing, documentation, and billing.
Requirements
  • M.D. degree and ABOS certification/eligibility in Orthopaedic Surgery
  • Record of scholarly publication in peer-review journals
  • Direct experience managing complex orthopaedic trauma cases, competence in standard inpatient procedures
  • Solid understanding of the orthopaedic trauma role and function and interest in teaching and growth in an academic setting
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team, providing effective communication, both verbal and written
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at Virginia Commonwealth University
