Project Kuiper strives to bridge the digital divide by delivering reliable and cost-effective broadband services to a diverse clientele, including individuals, businesses, government entities, and organizations operating in areas lacking dependable connectivity.

Our focus is on developing both enterprise and consumer-grade Customer Terminals, which enable our users to connect to the internet via Project Kuiper.

We are seeking an Embedded Software Development Engineer to take ownership of the design and development of system software for Customer Terminals associated with Project Kuiper, utilizing embedded Linux and custom silicon technology. As we innovate with each device we create, your role will be crucial in delivering this suite of products to our customers.

Export Control Requirement:
In compliance with applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, a U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Design and develop embedded software for Customer Terminal devices within the Project Kuiper framework.
  2. Engage in all stages of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), including requirements analysis, design, coding, testing, and ensuring code/test coverage.
  3. Write embedded software using languages such as assembly, C, C++, Rust, or others.
  4. Possess comprehensive knowledge of real-time embedded software principles and methodologies.
  5. Demonstrate expertise in Linux and Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS).
  6. Review schematics and utilize logic analyzers for troubleshooting embedded software (bare-metal).
  7. Understand cryptography, threat modeling, secure SDLC practices, TrustZone, and bootloader concepts.
  8. Develop drivers for various peripherals and interfaces, including I2C/I3C, SPI, UART, GPIO, etc.
  9. Collaborate closely with hardware teams to facilitate board bring-up and integration testing.
A Day in the Life:
You will be part of a team of embedded Software Development Engineers responsible for leading the design of embedded software utilized in Project Kuiper's customer terminal products. Your work will involve collaboration with various teams within and outside of Amazon. You will also mentor fellow software engineers on best practices while guiding software designs from initial requirements through to mass production.

About the Team:
The Kuiper Customer Terminal Software Team is dedicated to supporting the devices that connect our customers to the Kuiper network. We develop software for both applications and the foundational Linux systems. Our team works in close partnership with hardware, product, and operations teams to ensure an exceptional experience for our customers.BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

5+ years of professional software development experience (non-internship)
- 5+ years of programming experience in at least one software language
- 5+ years of experience leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability, and scaling) of new and existing systems
- Experience mentoring, serving as a tech lead, or leading an engineering team

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

5+ years of experience across the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field
