Job Overview:

The Clinical Nutrition Associate plays a crucial role in identifying patients at nutritional risk and facilitating their referral to clinical dietitians. This position assists in delivering nutrition care to patients and their families in collaboration with the clinical nutrition team, medical staff, and physicians.

  • Associate degree or higher, or 2 years of experience in an acute clinical hospital setting required.
Certification Summary:
  • Serv-Safe certification required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Screen patients for nutritional risk utilizing the hospital-approved electronic medical record within 24 hours based on established risk criteria. Refer patients identified as at risk to clinical nutritionists in accordance with policy. Re-screen patients as per policy.
  • Perform basic clinical functions, including calorie counts, nutrient analysis, and verification of formula orders and recipe entries.
  • Conduct calorie counts and nutrient analysis following established policies.
  • Input calorie count and nutrient analysis data into the hospital-approved electronic medical record.
  • Enter and verify formula order recipes into the hospital-approved electronic medical record.
  • Achieve a passing score on the Nutrition Calculations Competency test within 60 days of hire with greater than 80% accuracy.
  • Adhere to inventory and stock procedures for human milk, nutritional formulas, and supplies in line with policy.
  • Assist in the orientation and training of new clinical nutritionists, nutrition technicians, and formula technicians regarding the responsibilities of the nutrition technician role.
  • Engage in ongoing process improvement initiatives within the department.
  • Support the Formula Technician as needed, including coverage for the position and its responsibilities.
  • Assist Nutrition Technician II with the receipt and delivery of human milk as required.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as necessary.
