Campus Overview:
Mount Vernon ISD is a 3A educational institution located in Northeast Texas, serving grades 4-8 at our Middle School.

Position Overview:
The Assistant Principal will play a pivotal role in guiding and overseeing the instructional programs and operational activities of the campus. This position is essential in fostering student engagement and ensuring the delivery of quality educational services.

Key Responsibilities:

Instructional Leadership:
Promote and support innovative teaching practices, assisting educators in implementing new instructional strategies. Engage in the evaluation of educational programs and provide constructive feedback for enhancement. Set clear expectations for staff performance regarding teaching methodologies and classroom management. Cultivate a collaborative environment among faculty members and encourage their participation in decision-making processes.

Campus Improvement Initiatives:
Take an active role in strategizing and executing initiatives that align with the school's mission. Collaborate with staff, parents, and community stakeholders to develop comprehensive campus improvement plans.

Assist the principal in creating and utilizing information systems to track academic performance and progress toward established objectives.


Student Engagement and Discipline:
May serve as the campus behavioral coordinator in compliance with state regulations.

Collaborate with faculty and students to establish a discipline management system that promotes positive behavior and enhances the overall school environment.

Ensure consistent application of school policies and equitable discipline in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct.

Conduct discussions with parents, students, and teachers regarding school-related issues. Ensure adequate supervision of students during non-instructional times.

Administrative and Fiscal Oversight:
Manage campus operations in the absence of the principal.

Lead the planning and organization of daily school activities, including class schedules, teacher assignments, and extracurricular programs.

Oversee student attendance reporting and collaborate with staff to address attendance-related challenges. Work with department heads to prepare annual budget proposals based on identified program needs. Manage the requisition of supplies and maintain inventory in accordance with district policies. Coordinate essential support services such as transportation and cafeteria operations to meet campus requirements. Adhere to district policies and relevant state and federal regulations.

Personnel Oversight:
Monitor staff performance, document observations, and conduct evaluation meetings. Assist the principal in the recruitment and onboarding of new personnel.

Community Engagement:
Communicate the school's mission to the community and seek support to achieve educational goals.

Demonstrate awareness of community needs and initiate programs to address those needs, fostering parent and community involvement.


Additional Responsibilities:
Adhere to district safety protocols and emergency procedures.

Supervisory Duties:
Oversee and evaluate the performance of assigned professional staff. Direct the activities of teachers, custodians, paraprofessionals, clerical staff, and others as designated.

Physical and Mental Demands:

Tools and Equipment:
Standard office equipment, including computers and peripherals.

Work Environment:

May require extended or irregular hours; work both indoors and outdoors, with exposure to various weather conditions; occasional travel for district-wide or state events.


Mental Demands:
Manage frequent interruptions and maintain emotional stability under pressure.

Qualifications:

Education and Certification:
Master's degree from an accredited institution
Texas principal certification or equivalent
Certified Texas Teacher Support and Evaluation System (T-TESS) appraiser

Special Skills:
Understanding of campus operations
Knowledge of curriculum and instructional practices
Ability to assess educational programs and teaching effectiveness
Competence in budget management and personnel oversight
Capability to implement policies and procedures
Ability to analyze data
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Experience:
Minimum of three years as a classroom teacher
Preferred two years of experience in campus administration.
