Process Optimization Specialist
About the position: Nouryon is seeking qualified candidates for the pivotal role of Process Optimization Specialist.
This role is crucial for:
Delivering expert engineering support services, which includes collaboration with technical representatives, thorough project oversight, and specialized knowledge. Providing troubleshooting and enhancement services for all operational processes within the facility as required. Gaining and maintaining technical proficiency in company processes. Aligning expertise and related goals with other company facilities.
In your future role as a Process Optimization Specialist, you will:
- Design and execute improvements in processes, equipment, and systems.
- Conduct troubleshooting and implement enhancements effectively.
- Communicate efficiently with personnel across all departments.
- Coordinate efforts with Operations, Industrial IT, Plant Engineering, and Maintenance teams.
- Maintain necessary documentation and adhere to management system requirements.
- Provide training to employees as necessary.
- Analyze reports and data, coordinating responses as needed.
- Represent the facility in technical discussions with external entities.
- Engage with operations to the fullest extent possible.
- Offer support during off-hours when required.
- Acquire and maintain knowledge for emergency response.
- Develop and uphold HSES expertise related to the position, including HazOp skills.
Position Requirements:
To succeed in this role, an individual must effectively fulfill each essential duty. The following qualifications are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required:
- Bachelor of Science Degree (B.S.) in Chemical Engineering or a related field from an accredited institution.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret scientific and technical literature, financial documents, and legal texts.
- Capability to respond to inquiries or complaints from customers and regulatory bodies.
- Proficiency in writing reports, business correspondence, and procedural manuals.
- Ability to present information and address questions from groups of managers and the public.
- Competence in applying advanced mathematical concepts.
- Ability to define problems, gather data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to interpret a wide variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagrammatic form.
- Understanding of operational criteria for large mechanical/process equipment.
- Possession of a valid Washington State Driver's License.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- High-level expertise in operating personal computers with current authorized software.

While executing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to manipulate objects, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, talk or hear, and taste and smell.
The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required for this role include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Responsible for fostering a positive and professional work environment in activities related to both internal and external matters. This includes personnel relations, exemplifying leadership, training and development of staff, maintaining effective communication, and supporting management objectives. While there are no permanent direct supervisory responsibilities, the role may involve oversight of contractors and direction of employees on various projects as needed.
Safety Responsibilities:
Accountable for making safety-related decisions and ensuring compliance with safety requirements. Responsible for supporting and applying all Safety, Health, and Environmental policies and procedures as necessary.
Quality Responsibilities:
Responsible for making quality-related decisions and supporting the Quality Assurance System. Accountable for modifications in the Quality Assurance System as required.
Work Environment:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee may encounter while performing the essential functions of this role.
While executing the duties of this position, the employee may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, high places, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outside weather conditions, extreme temperatures, electrical hazards, explosives, and vibrations.
The employee may also encounter wet and/or humid conditions. The noise level in the work environment is typically moderate.
