Overview:

The Environmental Materials Specialist will be responsible for defining, developing, and implementing environmental strategies, programs, and systems to ensure compliance with various product environmental regulations, customer expectations, and corporate policies. Key focus areas include directives and regulations such as RoHS, REACH, WEEE, Proposition 65, EU MDD, and EU-MDR. This role will lead research efforts to identify components and assemblies containing PFAS chemicals and recommend alternative materials that fulfill both environmental and performance criteria.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage in collaborative working groups to identify PFAS chemicals within the current product lineup and suggest effective, sustainable alternatives that comply with international, federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation and records to track and report on environmental compliance and stewardship initiatives.
  • Analyze emerging environmental trends and evolving Product Environmental Compliance regulations to guide changes in both new product development and existing product maintenance.
  • Consult on the selection and testing of materials to ensure they meet specifications regarding mechanical strength, weight ratio, ductility, magnetic and electrical properties, and resistance to various environmental factors.
  • Address inquiries from tenders, customers, and interest groups related to environmental stewardship and material content.
  • Respond to environmental audits and inspections from global regulatory bodies.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Material Science, Chemical, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in materials identification, selection, and testing.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Material Science or Chemical Engineering.
  • 5 years of experience in environmental compliance practices at local, state, federal, and international levels.
  • Familiarity with regulations and best practices in areas such as RoHS, REACH, WEEE, Battery, Packaging, Proposition 65, EU MDD, and EU-MDR.
  • Experience in establishing and supporting Quality Systems processes for Product Environmental compliance.
  • Background in Design or Manufacturing is preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to produce clear reports and collaborate with diverse team members globally.
  • Demonstrated leadership, training, and mentoring abilities.
  • Self-motivated and goal-oriented.
  • Organized with strong computer skills; proficient in MS Office Suite.
  • Prior experience with FDA and medical device manufacturing standards is advantageous.

Physical Requirements:

  • Fast-paced office environment requiring extensive use of telephone and computer equipment.
  • May require occasional travel, including potential international trips.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds on an infrequent basis.
