The Injury Prevention Program Coordinator plays a vital role in the design, execution, and management of initiatives aimed at reducing injuries, as well as community and professional outreach education.

This position involves overseeing daily operations related to injury prevention, including strategic planning and securing funding sources for relevant activities.

Key responsibilities include building and nurturing relationships within the communities served by the regional trauma center, acting as a liaison with local public health officials, community organizations, and governmental bodies.


Responsibilities:
Develop and implement comprehensive injury prevention initiatives aimed at high-risk populations within designated areas.

Provide expert guidance, training, and support to local and state public health entities, educators, community organizations, task forces, and other health and safety professionals regarding injury prevention strategies.

Establish criteria to evaluate the effectiveness and outcomes of injury prevention programs.

Disseminate injury prevention resources through local and statewide networks to raise public awareness and education on injury prevention. Coordinate requests from schools, community organizations, emergency medical services, traffic safety officers, etc., to deliver various trauma prevention and educational programs.

Assist in the organization and promotion of hospital trauma-related conferences, special events, and educational sessions.

Oversee the alcohol screening process for trauma patients and provide monthly evaluations of assessment completion.

Engage in local, state, and regional committees and groups focused on injury prevention. Stay informed on current injury prevention issues and methodologies by participating in nationally recognized programs.


Seek, prepare, and submit relevant grant proposals; manage received grants and adhere to guidelines in a fiscally responsible manner to ensure all deliverables are met.

Utilize trauma registry data to identify patterns, frequency, and risks associated with injuries in the community. Monitor injury data trends and support efforts to enhance data collection and evaluation activities. Present findings at monthly meetings.

Represent Hackensack University Medical Center as the Injury Prevention Coordinator on the State Trauma Council.

Coordinate Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) courses in collaboration with the ATLS Director.

Work in partnership with the Trauma/Surgical Critical Care and Injury Prevention Service to ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and standards. Ensure that the program meets the requirements set forth by the American College of Surgeons Trauma Center designation.

Physical requirements include lifting a minimum of 5 lbs., pushing and pulling a minimum of 10 lbs., and standing for at least 4 hours daily.


Identify the needs of the patient population served and tailor care to meet those needs (e.g., age, culture, sensory impairments). This includes effective communication with patients, parents, and/or primary caregivers at their appropriate developmental and educational levels.



Other duties and projects may be assigned as necessary.

Graduate of an NLN/AACN accredited nursing program.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing or a degree/license in a healthcare-related field.

Clinical experience in critical care, trauma, and/or emergency nursing.

Proficiency in Google Applications.

Maintain current knowledge of adult and pediatric trauma/critical care, professional practice, and research.

Experience in public speaking and grant writing.

Licenses and Certifications Required:
New Jersey State Professional Registered Nurse License.

AHA Basic Health Care Life Support HCP Certification.

Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification.

Pediatric Advanced Life Support Certification.

Must obtain ATLS coordinator designation within one year of hire.
