Job Overview

As a Senior Machining Specialist, you will operate with minimal oversight, utilizing blueprints, sketches, and both written and verbal instructions to set up and execute a range of intricate machining, fitting, and assembly tasks. Your expertise will be essential in employing a diverse array of tools, machine components, and parts throughout the manufacturing process.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute complex setups and proficiently operate various machine tools; assess operational sequences, appropriate jigs, fixtures, and tool designs required for tasks.
  • Utilize all machine shop measuring instruments to ensure work meets precise specifications.
  • Skillfully handle all machinist's hand tools and measurement devices.
  • Demonstrate familiarity with machining various materials.
  • Apply advanced mathematical concepts, including trigonometry, in machining processes.
  • Assist the foreman in operational management and scheduling, providing support to fellow machinists in setups and troubleshooting machining challenges.
  • Transport parts and materials within the work area as needed.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace.

Qualifications

  • A high school diploma or equivalent educational background is required.
  • Willingness to undertake additional tasks as directed by supervisory personnel.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills are essential.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Proficient in operating both standard and specialized equipment for producing prototype and production components.
  • Capable of performing standard shop calculations using technical mathematics, geometry, and trigonometry.
  • Thorough understanding of geometric dimensions and tolerances in both standard and metric measurement systems.
  • A collaborative mindset with a strong inclination to work effectively within a team environment.

Equipment and Machinery Proficiency

  • Expertise in operating Bridgeport-type milling machines.
  • Skilled in using Hardinge-type tool room precision lathes as well as engine lathes.
  • Proficient in the operation of tool and surface grinders.
  • Experienced with all shop inspection equipment, including but not limited to CMM, comparators, digital height gauges, and micrometers.

Physical Demands

  • Moderate physical activity is required.
  • Ability to handle average-weight objects up to 50 pounds and engage in prolonged periods of pushing, pulling, standing, and walking.
