The Licensed Practical Nurse II (LPN II) will provide high-quality patient care under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, Physician, or Advanced Practice Nurse. This role is responsible for delivering nursing care to patients in the Gastroenterology Clinic, ensuring a safe and effective treatment environment.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct patient history to establish a child's normal baseline routine and respond to inquiries from families by answering questions clearly.
- Accurately take vital signs, including temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, height, and weight, as well as intake and output measurements according to procedure.
- Recognize physical and behavioral changes for groups of patients usually cared for in the assigned area and perform basic nursing care, including personal hygiene, dressing, linen change, positioning, assisting in the use of bedpan, urinal, diaper change, ambulation, and therapeutic interventions.
- Immediately respond to and assess the child whose feeding MV pump or monitor is alarming and troubleshoot the alarm system as needed.
- Collect and test specimens, pass NG tubes and catheters according to procedure and unit policy.
- Prepare for the setup of monitors and D.C.'s peripheral IV's after directed by a Registered Nurse.
- High School Diploma or GED and completion of a 1-year vocational/technical training program in a related field.
- 2 years related experience.
- Ability to perform technical functions, interact with children and families, and possess good verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrates competence in obtaining accurate vital signs, assessment, and documentation of patient care.
- Successfully complete Division of Nursing & Patient Services LPN Medication Administration test and hospital/nursing orientation.
- Identify resources and know when to ask for help or escalate.
- Demonstrate basic knowledge, judgment, and skill in the delivery of the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, education, and evaluation.
- Licensed Practical Nurse Upon Hire.
- Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider (BLS) Upon Hire.
This role is based in the Ambulatory Care department at Children's National Medical Center, where you will have the opportunity to work with a talented team of healthcare professionals to provide exceptional patient care.
