We are currently seeking a qualified Field Claims Specialist II (property focused) to join our Claims Team. This role is centered on first-party property loss and will support Society's policyholders in the Illinois/Iowa Quad Cities area. The position involves resolving moderate to severe claims across various coverage lines through field investigations, loss documentation, and negotiation of out-of-court settlements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Resolve moderate to severe claims by assessing the insurance carrier's liability; reaching agreements with claimants based on policy provisions; and managing mediations, arbitrations, and subrogation within authorized limits.
  • Assess coverage by engaging with insured parties; gathering evidence; inspecting damages; investigating incidents; interpreting policy coverages; clarifying coverages; and determining subrogation and salvage.
  • Document necessary repairs by evaluating property losses; engaging required experts; obtaining cost estimates; and preparing detailed assessments.
  • Enhance and maintain expertise in specific lines of business. Mentor and train claims representatives in areas of expertise by identifying training needs and opportunities.
  • May participate in litigation by reviewing negotiated settlement options; evaluating evidence; and supervising attorneys in the management of discovery and settlement processes.
  • Complete claims by gathering, providing, and exchanging information and agreements with contractors, attorneys, healthcare providers, and other third parties.
  • Maintain claims records by documenting transactions for assigned files in compliance with company and state regulations; and preparing loss development reports.
  • Contribute to team efforts by participating in catastrophe response teams.
  • Assist home office claims representatives with claims in designated coverage areas.
  • Ensure adherence to company guidelines and procedures by overseeing independent adjusters during investigations; and supervising attorneys in the management of discovery and settlement.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree and 5+ years of claims-handling experience OR 7+ years of field claims-handling experience.
  • Technical expertise in Commercial Property and/or Casualty Claims.
  • Proficient in technology, including Microsoft Office, spreadsheets, and Internet applications.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain necessary licensing for states requiring it.
  • Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
  • Physical capability to climb ladders and lift up to 10 pounds.
  • Professional designations such as AIC, ARM, CIC, CPCU or equivalent coursework are highly preferred.
  • Familiarity with estimating software is highly preferred.
