As a key player in the procurement team, the Senior Commodity Buyer is responsible for overseeing the purchasing operations within the organization.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Analyze and comprehend material specifications as per Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) requirements.
  • Interpret Military Standards and ensure accurate communication to suppliers.
  • Understand and disseminate Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFARS) requirements.
  • Identify and evaluate potential suppliers for qualification.
  • Collaborate and coordinate with Program and Quality Management teams.
  • Conduct research, interviews, and negotiations with suppliers to secure optimal pricing, delivery timelines, and product quality.
  • Generate purchase orders that encompass all necessary details (e.g., grade, dimensions, quantity, due date, and customer specifications).
  • Regularly monitor and track the status of purchased items, providing management with timely updates.
  • Document material cost savings and present monthly reports to management.
  • Perform additional related duties as required.
SUPERVISORY ROLE
This position does not entail direct supervisory responsibilities but involves indirect leadership related to customer satisfaction.

QUALIFICATIONS

To excel in this role, candidates must demonstrate proficiency in the following areas:
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and blueprints.
  • Experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong data entry, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Capability to manage multiple priorities effectively while maintaining accuracy.
  • Experience in the steel industry is essential.
  • Familiarity with purchasing processes related to government contracts.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
A bachelor's degree in business or a related field from an accredited institution is required, along with four years of relevant experience in purchasing, finance, or sales, including three years in the steel fabrication sector; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business publications, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Proficient in writing reports, business correspondence, and procedural manuals. Capable of effectively presenting information and addressing inquiries from groups of managers, production staff, clients, and the public.

MATHEMATICAL ABILITY

Strong mathematical skills and financial acumen are required, along with basic financial knowledge.

REASONING SKILLS

Must possess the ability to make informed business decisions and demonstrate strong problem-solving capabilities. Analytical skills are necessary to define problems, gather data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret technical documents and read blueprints is essential.

CERTIFICATIONS
CPPM certification is preferred.
