Role Summary

The Early Childhood Education initiative at IRWIN A AND ROBERT D GOODMAN COMMUNITY CENTER is dedicated to providing a nurturing environment for children aged 3-5 years. Our team collaborates to foster children's growth through exploration and play. Co-Teachers partner with other educators to design, oversee, and deliver early childhood educational programs that align with our mission.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work alongside the Lead Teacher to cultivate an inviting atmosphere, develop lesson plans, manage schedules, and ensure effective classroom management to achieve program objectives. Support children's emotional and social growth through various methods, including positive reinforcement and structured guidance.
  • Design engaging activities that introduce foundational math and literacy concepts, encouraging children to learn through curiosity, play, and problem-solving in a diverse classroom environment. Document children's milestones and progress in accordance with established curriculum standards.
  • Assist the Lead Teacher in evaluating individual child development through observation, collection of work samples, and photographic documentation. Relay any concerns regarding child development or family needs to the Early Childhood Education Program Manager as necessary.
  • Foster a culturally responsive classroom by integrating activities that reflect diverse cultures and backgrounds.
  • Monitor children's engagement and development; maintain organized portfolios that align with the curriculum.
  • Support initiatives related to physical activity and nutrition by collaborating with physical education staff to create healthy eating plans and ensure children participate in various physical activities throughout the day.
  • Contribute to the planning and execution of program orientations, open houses, and community engagement events while adhering to organizational standards and fulfilling all contractual obligations.
  • Encourage a supportive environment where children can participate individually or in groups within classroom settings.
  • Ensure the classroom is organized, materials are rotated, and spaces are regularly sanitized and maintained.
  • Keep accurate records of all required documentation, permissions, and other forms to ensure compliance with program standards.
  • Perform additional job-related duties as assigned that fall within the scope of this position.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • At least a CDA Credential or an associate degree in Early Childhood/Child Development or a related field, or a bachelor's degree in Early Childhood/Child Development.
  • Experience in a preschool environment is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Early Childhood Registry requirements.
  • Commitment to the mission of strengthening lives and promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Knowledge of local resources related to childcare programs.
  • Understanding of State of WI Child Care Licensing Rules and City of Madison Accreditation Guidelines.
  • Familiarity with Conscious Discipline and Creative Curriculum methodologies.
  • Experience working with diverse families and staff.
