Role Summary
The Early Childhood Education initiative at IRWIN A AND ROBERT D GOODMAN COMMUNITY CENTER provides a nurturing environment for children aged 3-5 to thrive and develop. Staff collaborate to foster children's growth through exploration and play. Co-Teachers assist in the planning, supervision, and execution of early childhood educational activities that align with the center's objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Work alongside the Lead Teacher to cultivate an inviting atmosphere and develop lesson plans, schedules, and classroom management strategies to achieve program objectives. Promote children's social-emotional growth using various methods, including positive guidance techniques.
- Design engaging activities that introduce foundational math and literacy concepts, encouraging children to learn through curiosity and problem-solving in a mixed-age classroom environment. Document children's milestones and maintain records according to curriculum standards.
- Support the Lead Teacher in assessing individual children's progress through observations, work samples, and documentation. Communicate any concerns regarding children's development and family needs to the Early Childhood Education Program Manager as needed.
- Foster a culturally responsive classroom by incorporating activities that celebrate diverse cultures and backgrounds.
- Monitor children's engagement and development; manage curriculum portfolios effectively.
- Contribute to physical activity and nutrition education by collaborating with physical education initiatives to promote healthy eating and active lifestyles.
- Assist in the planning and execution of program orientations, open houses, and community engagement events while adhering to organizational standards and fulfilling all contractual obligations.
- Create a supportive environment that encourages individual and group participation in classroom activities.
- Ensure classroom organization, material rotation, and regular sanitation of spaces while performing additional assigned duties.
- Maintain accurate records, required documentation, and permissions to ensure compliance with organizational expectations.
- Perform other related duties as assigned that fall within the scope of this position.
Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- At least a CDA Credential or an associate degree in Early Childhood/Child Development or a related field, or a bachelor's degree in Early Childhood/Child Development.
- Experience in a preschool environment is preferred.
- Knowledge of Early Childhood Registry requirements.
- Commitment to the mission of strengthening lives and promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Familiarity with local resources for childcare programs.
- Understanding of State Child Care Licensing Rules and Accreditation Guidelines.
- Knowledge of Conscious Discipline and Creative Curriculum methodologies.
- Experience working with diverse families and staff.
