Role Description

The Elementary Age Afterschool Program at IRWIN A AND ROBERT D GOODMAN COMMUNITY CENTER is designed to provide a nurturing environment for children from diverse backgrounds to engage in play, socialization, learning, and personal growth. The educators in this program play a vital role in organizing, supervising, and executing after-school activities that align with the objectives of the center's elementary initiative. This posting is for multiple roles.

Qualifications
  • A minimum of a CDA Credential or an associate degree in Early Childhood/Child Development or equivalent, or a baccalaureate degree in Early Childhood/Child Development, or a related field with coursework specifically in early childhood education.
  • Prior experience in a childcare environment.
  • A strong commitment to the mission of the Goodman Community Center, which focuses on enhancing lives and securing futures.
  • Knowledge of State of WI Childcare Licensing Rules and Regulations and City of Madison Accreditation Guidelines.
  • Familiarity with Conscious Discipline and Creative Curriculum methodologies.
  • A valid driver's license with a clean driving record, and a willingness to operate a 15-passenger van.
  • Experience collaborating with staff and families from various backgrounds, with a dedication to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with co-teachers to foster a welcoming atmosphere; develop lesson plans and assist children with homework while promoting literacy and math skills.
  • Work in partnership with the Metropolitan Madison School District and early childhood staff to ensure effective use of shared spaces.
  • Support children's social-emotional growth through various strategies, including Positive Behavior Supports and Conscious Discipline.
  • Assist in planning and executing program orientations, open houses, center-wide events, and family engagement activities.
  • Create a supportive environment that encourages individual and group participation in classroom settings.
  • Maintain organization, rotation of materials, and ensure regular cleaning and sanitization of classroom areas.
  • Document progress for assigned groups of children throughout the school year, including teacher communication, anecdotal notes, work samples, and photographs.
  • Utilize pre-program time to plan activities that align with curriculum objectives, ensuring developmentally appropriate practices and program goals.
  • Communicate with daytime educators to ensure the program meets the academic needs of children in the assigned classroom group, including assistance with homework.
  • Perform additional job-related duties as assigned that fall within the scope of this position.
