Profile

As a Transit Vehicle Technician, you will be integral to the secure operation of our transit fleet, safeguarding the well-being of passengers who depend on our services for their daily journeys.

Key Responsibilities

  • Exhibit a strong commitment to safety in all tasks.
  • Preferred: At least one year of progressive experience in heavy equipment maintenance.
  • Preferred: A technical degree or equivalent experience of two years.
  • Possess computer skills for repairing various bus components.
  • Ability to interpret and follow technical schematics.
  • Intermediate proficiency in computer applications, including Microsoft Office.
  • Demonstrate a customer-oriented approach with professionalism and discretion.
  • Maintain confidentiality and build trust through integrity.
  • Detail-oriented and resourceful, capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
  • Collaborate effectively within a team to ensure vehicle safety.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Employ sound judgment and problem-solving abilities to address technical issues.
  • Excellent communication skills are essential.
  • Flexibility to work in a 24/7 operational environment.
  • Additional training from mechanical or technical programs is advantageous.
  • Experience with diagnostic tools and software is required.
  • Ability to learn about the design, maintenance, and adjustments of various vehicle systems.
  • Hands-on experience in electrical and mechanical troubleshooting.
  • Utilize hand tools and power tools effectively, including diagnostic software.
  • Maintain accurate records and work history within electronic repair orders.
  • Inspect, diagnose, and repair critical vehicle systems to ensure optimal performance.
  • Employ hoists and jacks for equipment inspection and repair.
  • Conduct routine preventative maintenance procedures.
  • Test drive vehicles to diagnose malfunctions or verify proper operation.
  • Inspect and repair safety devices and components.
  • Perform vehicle alignments and routine maintenance on engines and transmissions.
  • Repair and adjust vehicle interiors and accessories.
  • Conduct emission-related diagnostics and repairs.
  • Engage in minor fabrication and welding tasks as needed.
  • Respond to service calls for vehicles and equipment.
  • Assist in training junior personnel.
  • Fulfill supervisory duties as required.
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned.

Education Requirements

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • One to two years of vocational or technical training or equivalent experience.
  • Experience classifications based on collective agreements.
  • Level C: Entry-level position.
  • Level B: Requires three ASE certifications and three years of relevant experience.
  • Level A: Requires four ASE certifications and four years of relevant experience.
  • Master: Requires ASE Master certification and five years of relevant experience.
  • Basic computer skills with a willingness to learn new software.
  • All positions require a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) class B with necessary endorsements.
  • Must provide personal hand tools for the job.
  • Pass a pre-employment physical and drug screening.
  • No recent criminal convictions or substance-related offenses.
