Job Summary:

Job Title: Transportation Operations Center Dispatcher

Department: Oregon Department of Transportation, Delivery & Operations Division – Region 2

Location: District 4 / Transportation Operations Center Dispatch Unit

Job Responsibilities:
  • Monitor transportation system conditions, radio communications, and weather conditions to ensure safe and efficient operations.
  • Implement incident and weather-related response plans to minimize disruptions and ensure public safety.
  • Coordinate with other agencies, dispatch centers, transportation operation centers, crews, law enforcement, and the Oregon Emergency Response System to ensure effective communication and response.
  • Receive, input, and notify crews about maintenance or repair requests to ensure timely completion of tasks.
  • Implement detour routes, including dispatching staff and equipment, to minimize disruptions and ensure public safety.
  • Review, analyze, and maintain knowledge of statewide and regional standard operating guidelines, emergency operations plans, and TOC systems to ensure compliance and effectiveness.
  • Work in a fast-paced environment with multiple conflicting priorities, making life-threatening decisions, and communicating with the public under confusing or crisis conditions.
  • May be required to work extended hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, to ensure 24/7 operations.
Requirements:
  • Two years of public contact experience, including gathering, relaying, and providing information to others, and evaluating activities or incidents, and determining an appropriate course of action.
  • One year of experience receiving and dispatching emergency requests using radio equipment, telephone, and/or computer.
  • Successful completion of a Certified Emergency Communications Course may substitute for the one year of specialized experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • LED certification and ability to maintain current certification within 90 days of hire.
  • Ability to pass a skills test.
