This role is for a Quality Engineer within our shipyard programs, focusing on LCS and MMSC initiatives.

The selected candidate will be part of an onsite team overseeing multiple hull constructions at a Tier 2 shipyard, with a strong emphasis on collaboration with program partners and subcontractors, reporting directly to the SCSS Quality Engineering Manager.

The position involves working closely with the Shipyard Quality team, which encompasses Product, Engineering, and Supplier Quality. Candidates must demonstrate flexibility and adaptability to meet program commitments in a dynamic work environment, coordinating effectively with team members across various locations.


Key responsibilities include quality oversight of all ship construction phases, such as heavy steel fabrication, testing and integration, subsystem installation, propulsion systems, power management, heating and cooling systems, and finishing processes.

Knowledge of material specifications and familiarity with processes related to welding, plumbing, electrical systems, large-scale dimensional inspections, nondestructive testing techniques, and mechanical and electrical testing are essential for this role.


Collaborate with the Shipyard Quality Team to assist the Quality Manager in implementing and executing the quality management system as outlined in the Quality Assurance Plan (QAP) for assigned programs.

Basic Qualifications:

- Proven experience with ISO9001 and audit processes.

- Experience with SUPSHIP Bath Maine Shipyard construction.
- Understanding of product management processes, technical requirements, change management, risk assessment, and scheduling.

- Familiarity with process improvement methodologies such as Lean and/or Six Sigma (Green Belt or Black Belt) aimed at reducing waste and enhancing efficiency.

- Experience in Root Cause Analysis.
- Knowledge of DOD contract requirements and/or American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) Naval Vessel Rules and High-Speed Naval Craft Rules.
- Experience with supplier interfacing and surveillance activities.
- Proven ability to work with multiple customers and build strong relationships.
- Competence in reviewing manufacturing process travelers to ensure appropriate processes and inspection criteria are applied.
- Understanding of production processes including soldering, mechanical assembly, welding, painting, integration, and testing.
- Certifications such as Paint Inspection (NACE, NBPI, etc.) and ASNT NDT certifications are advantageous.

Security Clearance Statement: This position necessitates a government security clearance; applicants must be U.S. Citizens for consideration.
