Job Overview

POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior Engineering Technician plays a crucial role in transforming engineering calculations and directives into effective design outputs, as well as producing detailed design deliverables for ship production that adhere to functional design documentation. This position is instrumental in identifying the technical needs of projects and defining the necessary resources to meet scheduling commitments within the technician's area of expertise. Additionally, the Senior Engineering Technician collaborates with manufacturing teams to address production-related challenges.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to:
  • Developing and producing 2D design outputs
  • Creating 3D models of systems and components within the technician's expertise
  • Resolving technical challenges under departmental supervision
  • Planning, estimating, scheduling, and overseeing assigned tasks
  • Monitoring and reporting progress against commitments
  • Supervising the work of assigned personnel
  • Facilitating communication regarding issues and solutions within the department
  • Preparing, reviewing, and issuing high-quality deliverables
  • Interpreting contract specifications
  • Drafting contract modification documents to support project requirements
  • Adhering to and enforcing all company policies and procedures
  • Leading or participating in product enhancement initiatives as required
SUPERVISORY ROLE

The Senior Engineering Technician may oversee a team of up to five employees. Supervisory duties are performed in alignment with company policies, procedures, and relevant laws. Responsibilities include planning, assigning, and directing work, as well as resolving issues. The Senior Engineering Technician is expected to exhibit leadership qualities that reflect the company's mission, vision, and values.

REQUIRED SKILLS:
  • Proven technological expertise (as detailed in the attachment) demonstrated through verifiable work experience, technical publications, or patents.
  • Familiarity with standard shipbuilding regulations and the associated review and approval processes is advantageous.
  • Current proficiency in computer applications relevant to the field.
  • Ability to operate within budgetary and scheduling constraints.
  • Professional demeanor and effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Capacity to maintain confidentiality.
  • Basic knowledge of Earned Value Management Systems is preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The physical demands outlined here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this role. The ability to independently enter the shipyard and ascend ladders onto elevated structures is desirable.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While executing the responsibilities of this position, the employee's workspace is typically in a clean, comfortable, climate-controlled environment with minimal exposure to moving equipment or extreme conditions. The noise level in the work environment is generally quiet. Upon entering the shipyard, the work environment is not climate-controlled and involves exposure to moving equipment. Personal protective equipment, such as hard hats, hearing protection, and steel-toed boots, is mandatory.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Associate's degree in a relevant field (or equivalent) or 10 years of equivalent experience.
  • Experience with primary design tools (AutoCAD 2D/3D, 3D ShipConstructor).
  • 5-10 years of progressively responsible experience in the relevant field.
  • Six Sigma or LEAN training is preferred.
