A Tubular Running Services Technician plays a crucial role in the safe and efficient operation of casing running equipment across various field locations. This position involves the maintenance and repair of company equipment to ensure optimal performance and adherence to both manufacturer and company quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Possess a comprehensive understanding of Tubular Running Service (TRS) Manual Handling Equipment, Power Equipment, Bucking Units, and Thread Monitoring Systems relevant to the assigned operational segment.
  • Effectively manage and operate casing running tools, including power tongs, elevators, power slips, control panels, and hydraulic power units.
  • Utilize hand tools and operate hydraulically activated machinery proficiently.
  • Set up, operate, and dismantle various components on a drilling rig.
  • Maintain clear and professional communication with all rig personnel, clients, and company representatives.
  • Serve as a mentor for junior Service Technicians.
  • Complete delivery tickets, job reports, time-sheets, and other necessary documentation.
  • Independently test, operate, maintain, and troubleshoot company tools and equipment.
  • Ensure a safe working environment by adhering to personal protective equipment (PPE) guidelines, inspecting tools and equipment, and maintaining an organized workspace free of hazards.
  • Be accountable for the safe operation of all company equipment.
  • Uphold the highest standards of workmanship in accordance with company expectations and regulatory requirements.
  • Report any hazards or deficiencies in safety controls to a supervisor promptly.
  • Make safety recommendations and report any unsafe practices or incidents.
  • Participate in all safety meetings, training sessions, and medical evaluations as required.
  • Obtain necessary authorizations and training before performing any tasks.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of the integrated management system by suggesting safer and more efficient methods for task execution.
  • Remain in contact with the Operations Supervisor during standby periods to coordinate actions.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned by the TRS Lead or Field Service Supervisor.

Qualifications

To excel in this role, candidates must demonstrate the ability to fulfill essential duties effectively. The following qualifications are preferred:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience in Mechanical or Electronic Applications or prior rig operations experience.
  • Mechanical aptitude with a solid understanding of hydraulic and mechanical/electronic systems.
  • 3-4 years of relevant experience with mechanical, electronic, or hydraulic equipment, or similar rig operations experience.
  • Familiarity with tubular handling equipment, including casing running tools, power tongs, elevators, power slips, control panels, and hydraulic power units.
  • Ability to work with hand tools and operate hydraulically activated machinery.
  • Capability to rig up, operate, and dismantle various components on a drilling rig.
  • A fast learner with a results-oriented mindset, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to work collaboratively or independently as directed.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Ability to work around moving machinery.
  • Lift, carry, and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Operate machinery and power tools effectively.
  • Navigate uneven terrain (gravel, rocks, mounds, ice).
  • Wear personal protective equipment, including hard hats, steel-toed safety shoes, hearing protection, respirators, safety glasses, goggles, and full-body harnesses.
  • Frequently stand, walk, stoop, kneel, carry, push/pull, reach, and perform repetitive wrist and hand movements.
  • Ascend and descend ladders, stairs, scaffolding, and ramps while carrying tools, requiring physical stamina and agility.
  • Work in varying weather conditions (cold or heat).
  • Comprehend, remember, and follow verbal and written instructions while adhering to company policies and procedures.
  • Work in hazardous conditions (dust, gas, fumes, steam, chemicals).
  • Experience exposure to vibration (oscillating movements of the extremities or whole body).
