Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Environmental Technician to join our team. As an Environmental Technician, you will be responsible for conducting field work, landscape construction, invasive plant management, and restoration of native plant communities. You will work closely with our team to ensure the successful completion of projects and provide excellent customer service to our clients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Rake, weed, treat, and remove invasive species.
  • Conduct planting of native herbaceous plugs, shrubs, and trees; dig holes, prepare organic soil amendments, insert plants, water, fill holes.
  • Gather and dispose of uprooted vegetative debris.
  • Install biodegradable erosion control materials.
  • Mix and apply herbicides using wiper or spray equipment.
  • Seed and fertilize restoration areas.
  • Prune or trim trees, shrubs, or hedges, using shears, pruners, or chain saws.
  • Use hand tools, such as shovels, rakes, pruning saws, saws, hedge or brush trimmers, or axes.
  • Maintain and perform minor repairs of tools and equipment.
  • Operate vehicles, mechanized devices, or equipment. Run, maneuver, navigate, or drive vehicles or mechanized equipment, such as passenger vehicles, brush mowers, chain saws or skid steers.
  • Comply with all safety rules, regulations, and standards as well as all WED policies and procedures.
  • Perform other functions, as determined by Crew Supervisors.
Requirements
  • Valid Driver's License, Valid DOT Medical Card (to be acquired within 30 days of hire), MA Pesticide Applicator License (to be acquired within 30 days of hire), Hoisting and Hydraulics License (to be acquired within 60 days of hire)
  • High school diploma or GED certificate.
  • Experience in a similar role.
  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their design, use, repair, and maintenance.
  • Ability to perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and moving whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials.
  • Ability to use hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning, moving materials, and manipulating things.
  • Ability to evaluate the likely success of an idea in relation to the demands of the situation.
  • Ability to participate in daily outdoor strenuous activity in a variety of adverse weather conditions year-round.
  • Ability to receive and comprehend written and spoken directions/instructions.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
  • Ability to effectively manage one's time.
  • Ability to lift material and/or packages weighing up to approximately 50 pounds
  • Interpersonal skills and the ability to work respectfully as a team with co-workers.
  • Maintain a well-kept, professional appearance.
  • Timely and dependable attendance.
  • Workday begins at 6:45am and may require overtime.
  • Available to work occasional Saturdays.
  • Available for occasional overnight travel, which could be a few days or a week.
  • This job will have exposure to occupational hazards such as tick-borne illnesses, biting and stinging insects.
  • This position is defined as a Safety-Sensitive Position at WED and would be subject to our random drug and alcohol testing program.
