About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Respiratory Therapist to join our team at Ochsner Health. As a Respiratory Therapist Sleep Tech, you will play a critical role in the evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform tracheostomy care on patients with advanced respiratory conditions.
  • Conduct difficult and unusual procedures and therapeutic interventions.
  • Gather and analyze patient information to identify and meet patient-specific needs.
  • Prepare and calibrate equipment required for testing.
  • Set up patients for testing according to accepted published standards.
  • Perform appropriate physiologic calibrations to determine proper functioning and make adjustments.
  • Document routine observations, including sleep stages, clinical events, changes in procedures, and significant events.
  • Perform routine mask fitting for positive airway pressure (PAP).
  • Score sleep studies by applying professional accepted guidelines.
  • Adapt behavior to the specific patient population, including respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions, and communication style.
Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Associate's degree from an accredited Respiratory Therapy program (preferred).
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment with a sense of urgency and skills to prioritize tasks (preferred).
  • Certification by the National Board of Respiratory Care as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT).
  • Licensed as a Respiratory Therapist in the state of practice.
  • Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPGST), Sleep Disorder Specialist (SDS), or Registered Sleep Tech (RST).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through American Heart Association.
Physical and Environmental Demands

The physical essential functions of this job include frequently exerting 10 to 20 pounds of force to move objects and occasionally exerting up to 100 pounds of force. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for sedentary work. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
