The vocational educational specialist: Using a one to one, person-centered counseling model, Community Oriented Recovery and Empowerment (CORE) program seeks to improve the functioning of individuals living with mental illness, histories of chemical and alcohol dependence, or physical disabilities, helping them achieve personal goals in the areas of recovery, employment or independent functioning

Responsibilities:

  • Engage individuals in shared decision making and recovery planning
  • Provide services as outlined in each participant's Plan of Care
  • Support clients in identifying and creating goals and developing personal goals with the skills, strengths, supports and resources to aid them in achieving those goals
  • Collaborating with clients' case manager or treatment team in determining the steps needed in order to achieve these goals and self-directed recovery
  • Address behavioral health barriers that would prevent client from pursuing employment and educational goals
  • Assist client with skill development related to academic survival skills, stress management, self-advocacy in the educational setting.
  • Assist client in developing skills related to the job application and interview process and "soft skills" related to employment.
  • Provide support in navigating application, enrollment, registration, and financial aid processes
  • Connect client to job training and educational programs available in the community, disability rights and resources, tutoring, mentoring services, and social supports
  • Facilitate Psychosocial Rehabilitation Groups, if needed
  • Support clients' vocational/educational choices and assist them in choosing a job that matches their strengths, overcoming job-related anxiety by reviewing job applications, and providing interview tips.
  • Keep progress notes and develop Individualized service plan based on client's vocational/educational interests
  • Hold case conferences as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor
Minimum Requirements
  • MUST speak Spanish
  • Master's degree required
  • Social worker, mental health counselor, marriage and family counselor, creative arts therapist, or rehabilitation counselor.
  • Limited permits are preferred.
  • Experiences with serving people with mental illness, alcoholism, or substance use preferred
