Position Overview

Abilities First, Inc. is dedicated to enhancing the lives of individuals with developmental disabilities through a range of supportive services. Our mission encompasses educational programs, community engagement, and vocational training, ensuring a holistic approach to development.

We are currently seeking a **Temporary Educational Support Specialist** for our School Program. This role is crucial in collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to deliver tailored educational experiences for students across varying abilities. The specialist will be responsible for addressing the daily needs of students while assisting educators in implementing classroom activities.

Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM; totaling 32.5 hours weekly. This is a full-time, temporary role.

Compensation: $17.85 per hour

The Educational Support Specialist will:

  • Adhere to the classroom schedule to ensure the achievement of individual student goals.
  • Facilitate both individual and group activities within the classroom setting.
  • Maintain organization of student workstations and areas.
  • Assist in creating materials developed by the teacher.
  • Participate in staff meetings and professional development training.
  • Accompany students to therapy sessions to support continuity in learning.
  • Help organize and arrange the classroom to foster an effective learning environment.
  • Support students in transitioning to and from transportation, promoting independence in mobility.
  • Engage with students during all special classes (e.g., Physical Education, Art, Music).
  • Assist students with outdoor clothing, encouraging self-dressing skills.
  • Provide necessary physical support, including lifting and transferring students.
  • Attend to personal hygiene needs, ensuring dignity and respect.
  • Assist with meal preparation and feeding, promoting independence in self-care.
  • Ensure cleanliness of feeding equipment and encourage students to participate in cleaning tasks.
  • Support the use of adaptive equipment as needed.
  • Follow ethical and legal standards in all interactions, maintaining a commitment to integrity and respect.
  • Comply with all organizational policies and prioritize safety for all individuals.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by supervisors.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience with children or individuals with disabilities is preferred.
