A health services network in New York City is seeking an experienced and licensed Vocational Specialist to join their Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) team. The Vocational Specialist will be instrumental in providing vocational support and services to clients, integrating employment-related goals into their overall treatment plans.

Responsibilities:

The Vocational Specialist will:

  • Vocational Planning and Integration:
    • Lead the ACT team in clinical meetings to address clients' vocational needs and integrate employment goals into service plans.
    • Develop and implement vocational strategies in alignment with the team's Integrated Dual Disorder Treatment (IDDT) initiatives.
  • Assessment and Recommendations:
    • Conduct comprehensive vocational assessments to identify clients' skills, interests, and barriers to employment.
    • Recommend appropriate vocational services and support based on clients' needs, severity of mental health conditions, and immediate goals.
  • Job Readiness and Placement:
    • Assist clients in job readiness activities, including resume building, job search techniques, and interview preparation.
    • Facilitate job placements and provide ongoing support to ensure successful employment outcomes.
  • Coordination and Support:
    • Coordinate with other ACT team members to ensure a holistic approach to clients' recovery and employment goals.
    • Monitor client progress and adjust vocational plans as necessary, providing continuous support and follow-up.
  • Referral and Advocacy:
    • Make referrals to external vocational programs and community resources as needed.
    • Act as a liaison and advocate for clients in securing and maintaining employment, collaborating with local businesses and organizations.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
    • Maintain accurate records of clients' vocational progress and services provided.
    • Prepare reports and documentation related to vocational support and outcomes.

Qualifications:

  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 3 years of experience in vocational counseling, case management, or a related field, with a focus on individuals with severe mental illness (SMI) and substance use disorders (SUD).
  • Education and Licensing:
    • Master's degree in Social Work (MSW), Mental Health Counseling (MHC), Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW), or a Master's degree in Rehabilitation Counseling.
    • Relevant professional licensure or certification as required by the state or jurisdiction.
  • Skills and Competencies:
    • Extensive knowledge of Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) and vocational rehabilitation principles.
    • Proficiency in developing and implementing vocational plans and strategies.
    • Strong understanding of community resources, support services, and available employment opportunities.
    • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills, with the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
