JOB SUMMARY:

Ensures veterans and dependents receive benefits and entitlements available to them under law.  Participates in planning of programs, policies or objectives for department.

Responsibilities
  • Provides information and guidance to agencies and the general public regarding veterans affairs.
  • Assists applicants in completing required forms; tracks and monitors applications for benefits. Submits applications to Department of Veterans Affairs for approval.
  • Determines client eligibility for public funds or services; Prepares and submits reports as required.
  • Attends meeting, conferences, and seminars relating to veteran’s issues.
  • Prepares departmental budget.
  • Coordinates veteran memorial programs.
  • Participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by County Judge.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field. 
  • 2 years job related experience and 2 years military service with any branch of Armed Services with Honorable discharge. Past experience with Veterans benefits preferred.  Political and media area experience preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; interpersonal skills and the ability to interact effectively with the public, other employees and elected officials. 
  • Strong management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to provide presentations to small and large groups.
  • Must maintain certification from Texas Veterans Commission; 40 hours training certification from National Association of County Service Officers. (Certifications must be obtained prior to employment).

SALARY RANGE: Commensurate with experience
