WSP is currently initiating a search for a Lead Specialist, Design Support in Computer Aided Drafting & Detailing (CADD) for our Portland, OR office . The following locations will also be considered: Vancouver, WA, Tacoma, WA, and Seattle, WA . WSP USA Operates with a Hybrid-Model Workplace. Be involved in projects with our Bridge Engineering Team , focused on structural transportation (Bridges, Walls, Culverts, etc.) with support for civil engineering projects and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges.

The selected candidate will provide subject matter technical CADD support of conceptual plan development, figures and exhibits for reports and documents, and contact documents (plans) for construction. Efforts will include coordination between interdisciplinary design teams and engineers for details, design inputs and markups, CADD standards, and client standard drawings. This individual will provide collaboration between peers, design leads, and project managers to address current and future challenges, and provide recommendations to accurately account for and address risk, innovation, and future-ready opportunities, and will provide leadership to ensure that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry and client standards for design, safety, structural soundness, and functionality.

Your Impact

  • Prepare preliminary and final CADD construction drawings for highway, roadway, transit, environmental, structural and utility improvement projects.

  • Prepare preliminary and final right-of-way, planning, or other technical drawings.

  • May lead project CADD support efforts under the direction of the engineer in charge.

  • Perform basic geometry and quantity calculations.

  • Review of others’ work and quality checks.

  • Develop CADD models for bridges, walls and other transportation related structures.

  • Support/advance CADD models for civil (roadways, drainage, grading, etc.) and buildings on occasion.

  • Develop 3-Dimensional (3D) models for Bridge Information Management (BIM) projects and for technical/congested design elements.

  • Learn basic principles of Bridge Engineering and construction to communicate intent of drawings and collaborate with engineers for needed design revisions, based on constructability, congestion, and or standard practices.

  • Support preparation of final design plans, special provisions, cost estimates and other contract documentation informed by CADD models and details.

  • Assist in collecting and maintaining project documentation.

  • Complete training on assigned tasks.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma.

  • Minimum of one (1) year of formal CADD training; CADD Certification

  • Minimum of five (5) years of CADD experience. Experience with one or more of the following CAD software packages; ability to learn and utilize all the following in their latest versions:

  • AutoCAD/Civil 3D

  • Bentley/MicroStation InRoads

  • BIM Software/Revit

  • ProjectWise,

  • Bluebeam Revu

  • Microsoft Products

  • Experience with the following computer software packages; ability to learn and utilize all the following in their latest versions:

  • Knowledge of general civil, structural, and engineering design and construction documents with experience working in Transportation market, specifically in bridge related infrastructure.

  • Understand and interpret topographic survey and base mapping including coordinates, elevations, contours, utility symbols, roadway symbols, etc.

  • Attention to detail.

  • Self-motivated.

  • Good communication skills and ability to work within a team environment.

  • Strong organizational skills.

  • Team player; capable of taking direction from leadership, mentors, and managers to executive projects.

  • Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools.

  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

  • Authorization to work in the United States at the start of employment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Actively enrolled in or graduated from an accredited college/Technical School for CADD, or related program.

  • Experience with Bentley OpenRoads/Open Bridge Modeler/CONNECT.

  • Demonstrated interest in CADD software development, BIM, or related field, and have a strong desire to advance skills related to WSP’s work, industry improvements, and project needs.

  • Experience in engineering discipline.
