Duties &
Responsibilities:

Job Summary

Under the direct supervision of the Director of Nursing Services, provides prescribed nursing care services to residents. Works collaboratively with members of the healthcare team. Maintains standards of professional nursing practice. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor. Completes shift duties in an accurate and timely manner.

Duties
  • Takes and records residents' vital signs.
  • Dresses wounds, gives enemas, and douches.
  • Applies compresses, ice bags, K-Packs, or other approved devices.
  • Observes residents and reports adverse reactions to medication or treatment to medical personnel in charge.
  • Administers specified medication, intravenously, orally, or by subcutaneous or intermuscular injection, and notes time and amount on resident charts (as allowed by state law).
  • Assembles and uses such equipment as catheters, tracheotomy tubes, and oxygen supplies.
  • Collects samples, such as urine, blood, and sputum, from residents for testing and performs routine laboratory tests on samples.
  • Disinfects equipment and supplies using germicides.
  • Examines food trays for consistency or amount eaten during and after the meal.
  • Records and/or assesses food trays for prescribed diet and feeds resident as needed.
  • Bathes, dresses, and assists residents in walking and turning as needed.
  • NIGHT SHIFT CHARGE NURSE: Conducts & certifies midnight census walk-through using the Medical Records roster in order to provide accurate data for the Daily Census Activity Report, billing purposes, and room assignments, etc., in compliance with State and Federal Regulations.
  • Enforces Center policies and processes to promote quality of care and to assure resident safety.
  • Other duties as assigned and appropriate to the position.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Demonstrates knowledge of nursing process, particularly as it relates to geriatric residents, long-term care, and rehabilitation.
  • Requires mental maturity to deal with fast-paced environment and occasionally combative residents.
  • Requires tolerance for body secretions, strong odors, exposure to diseases, and varied room temperatures.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate in English (reading, writing, speaking, and comprehension) in order to understand, plan, and carry out resident care plans and treatments.
