Summary:

The Coordinator of Human Resources is responsible for assisting the Director of Human Resources in the various functions of the human resources processes to ensure compliance with federal/state laws and Charlottesville City Schools Human Resources policies. These processes may include hiring, licensure, recruitment, and federal grant management. Additionally, developing, organizing, executing, and monitoring strategic recruitment and retention initiatives to attract, find, and acquire a diverse pool of qualified and capable talent for the division.

Essential Functions:
  • Plan and develop strategies and processes to attract and retain talent, proactively build talent strategies, and work to ensure alignment with the Charlottesville City Schools strategic goals.
  • Work with school leadership on developing and implementing long-term and short-term recruitment initiatives and talent pipelines that align with staffing needs and ensure placement of diverse and qualified talent into open positions.
  • Perform 30-60-90 check-ins with new staff and provide feedback/follow-up.
  • Travel to other office locations, job fairs, on-campus recruiting, and other community events to promote Charlottesville City Schools.
  • Manage the overall recruitment process from posting job openings through onboarding.
  • Manage employee contracts, appointment letters, and changes.
  • Manage student-teacher and intern placements.
  • Manage the employee evaluation system.
  • Manage the licensure process - initial, renewal, and provisional licensure status.
  • Lead and assist professional learning including substitute training as well as human resources required annual staff training.
  • Assist the Title IX Compliance officer with employee investigations.
  • Maintain confidentiality of information and materials received verbally, in meetings, or day-to-day business of the Human Resources Department.
  • Provide customer service to all stakeholders, communicating effectively in both written and verbal formats while resolving concerns and providing information and assistance.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and Board polices.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.


Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

Sound knowledge of automated human resources systems used by the school division; maintain the confidentiality of employee information; knowledge of benefits and hiring procedures; ability to manage a function on a daily operations basis with little direction; ability to communicate effectively both orally and in written form; ability to utilize technology to support office functions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with employees and family members, retirees, payroll, official, agencies, general public vendors, providers, and consultants

Education and/or Experience:

Bachelors' Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field. An Administration and Supervision endorsement is preferred. 2+ years of human resources experience, with a minimum of 1 year of experience in recruiting. Previous employment in an educational setting is preferred. PHR, SHRM, or other Human Resources Certifications are recommended.

Physical Conditions and Nature of Work:

Work is typically performed in an office setting with occasional extended periods of time at computer terminals. Visits to schools may be required for various employment functions. Necessity for working hours beyond set hours and days may occur. Frequent telephonic and occasional personal contact with Division leadership, principals, teachers, staff, and applicants is required.

Evaluation:

The Coordinator of Human Resources will be evaluated by the Director of Human Resources.

12 months/260 days
