Position

The Fund Accounting Manager will support the day-to-day accounting and financial reporting of CapRock’s fund and joint venture vehicles focused on real estate investments. Responsibilities include:
  • Oversee and monitor the day-to-day operations of the accounting staff and third-party fund administrator as it relates to the Company’s investment funds, including the establishment and ongoing review of the Company’s accounting policies and procedures.
  • Review fund distribution and capital call calculations and related investor notices. Ensure payments are made/received timely and that the accounting ERP system and investor reporting portals are updated and maintained accordingly.
  • Review asset management and other required fee calculations to ensure such fees are computed in accordance with fund governing documents.
  • Verify that fund transactions are being accounted for in accordance with governing fund documents, advisory agreements, and other legal agreements.
  • Managing accounting staff and third-party fund administrators in the preparation of quarterly and annual fund financial statements in accordance with US GAAP for investment companies.
  • Oversee and review the preparation of quarterly fund performance reporting.
  • Monitor loan guarantor covenant compliance, including review of related calculations and certifications.
  • Review distribution waterfalls and carried interest calculations for accuracy based on the terms of each Fund’s governing documents.
  • Support Portfolio Management team during the preparation of quarterly investment valuations
  • Oversee annual fund financial statement audits to ensure timely completion. Act as primary liaison to external fund auditors.
  • Work directly with Fund tax consultants to support preparation of Fund tax returns, investor K-1s, and related supporting files.
  • Support various administrative and operational matters pertaining to fund subsidiaries structured as Real Estate Investment Trust (“REITs”), including preparation of quarterly REIT compliance testing, E&P analyses, and coordination with Fund REIT consultants.
  • Research technical GAAP and operational issues to ensure appropriate accounting treatment of complex fund transactions.
  • Work closely with Acquisition Team, Asset Management Team and property accounting team on investment acquisitions and dispositions; ensure accurate booking and reporting of such investment transactions.
  • Work closely with inhouse legal and third-party counsel on fund agreements and legal entity formations
  • Respond to various investor requests for reports and information.
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop the Company’s accounting staff
  • Maintenance and development of effective internal controls and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as requested or as responsibilities dictate
What do you need to succeed?
  • Must possess a four-year college degree with a business-related major, preferably in accounting
  • A minimum of six (6) years of financial accounting experience in real estate investment, real estate development, private equity, or investment advisory or four (4) years of public accounting experience in related fields
  • CPA preferred
  • Experience with Yardi is a plus
  • General knowledge of investment company accounting matters (ASC 946)
  • REIT accounting/operational experience is a plus
  • Extreme attention to detail and ability to think critically
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
Terms/Expected Hours of Work
  • 40 hours per week during standard business hours Monday through Friday 8:00-5:00.
  • CapRock values it employees and its culture. We foster team mentality by working closely and collaborating across departments. For this reason, our expectation is for employees to work from a CapRock office three days a week, except in limited circumstances permitted by CapRock Policy.
