The Digital Content Specialist is responsible for producing multimedia content to support strategic communications for Meharry Medical College, the School of Applied Computational Science (SACS) and the Enterprise Data and Analytics Division (EDA). The position will lead the development and implementation of social media strategies for SACS and the EDA with the goal of growing targeted audiences and engaging them with key messages. A significant amount of writing for the Meharry Medical College website, following best-practice search engine optimization (SEO) and user experience (UX) strategies, will be required. The ideal candidate will also be able to produce video and interactive digital content. The Digital Content Specialist will work closely with partners across the College in the process of developing content and must conduct oneself in a professional, team-oriented manner.

Daily Operations

  • Develop strategies and manage social media accounts to engage prospective students and other stakeholders for SACS and the EDA.
  • Create compelling content for various digital platforms including websites, blogs, social media, and email campaigns in line with established strategic messaging.
  • Use best-practice search engine optimization strategies to write copy that helps improve search engine rankings.
  • Work collaboratively with the SACS/EDA Communications and Marketing team as well as stakeholders and partners across Meharry Medical College.
  • Help content contributors understand digital channel templates and governance fundamentals.
  • Assists with maintaining a schedule that identifies key dates to update specific webpages.
  • Ensures the best placement of digital content for readability. Utilizes SEO tools and services to provide reports and trends as requested by key stakeholders.
  • Audits Meharry website regularly and collaborates with partners to improve accuracy, readability, usefulness for readers, accessibility, adherence to style, search engine optimization and overall cohesiveness.
  • Track engagement across social media platforms and make data-driven decisions.
  • Track analytics as it relates to digital communications.
  • Adhere to Meharry Medical College branding guidelines and AP Style.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills
  • Strong alignment with the mission of Meharry Medical College.
  • Strong storyteller, writer, and proofreader with the ability to create and repackage content.
  • Proven work experience as a social media strategist or social media manager.
  • Experience with SEO best practices.
  • Experience in digital content production (video/design)
  • Experience with content management systems (WordPress or others), email marketing platforms (MailChimp, Emma or others), CRMs, and more.
  • Ability to break down complex, technical concepts into easy-to-understand and actionable copy.
  • Working knowledge of web usability and accessibility guidelines.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team utilizing ability to be detail oriented, strong communication skills, and exercising initiative.
  • Excellent coordination and organizational skills with an ability to address multiple assignments in a demanding environment.
  • Ability to work with a diverse population internal and external to Meharry Medical College.
  • Proven ability to provide support in an emergency or crisis situation while remaining composed and focused.
  • Able to promptly answer support related email, phone calls and other electronic communications.
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite and/or similar software.
  • Experience working with Slate or WorkDay Admissions is a plus.
  • Familiarity with issues in higher education is a plus.
Required Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree with a minimum of two years of experience in a professional communications, social media or marketing position
