Key Relationships

This position is critically important to fulfilling the mission of William Penn Charter School. With support from the Chief Operations Officer, the director must be a visionary leader with skills to lead a team of dedicated professionals and must be able to engage and communicate effectively with school leaders and departments across a PK-12 learning environment. The Director of Technology - Infrastructure and Planning will work closely with the Director of Educational Technology and other members of the Computer Science and Technology departments.

Position Summary

Penn Charter seeks a full-time Director of Information Technology - Infrastructure and Planning. This position is responsible for all aspects of William Penn Charter School technology infrastructure and network operations. In an ever-changing environment the Director provides a secure, robust, reliable, and efficient technology infrastructure and directs support strategies ensuring effective delivery of service and support. The Director also oversees the day-to-day support of all production platforms to ensure the availability, integrity, and reliability of the school's data network. This position reports directly to the Chief Operations Officer while providing ongoing supervision and guidance for Helpdesk Support, Mac Support Specialists, Database Manager and Audio Visual and Information Technology Events Support Coordinator.

Essential duties:

  • With support from the Chief Operations Officer, oversee all operations of the technology department including setting direction and a vision for the department that supports Penn Charter's learning and operating objectives
  • Hire, supervise, evaluate and provide growth opportunities for staff in the department
  • Oversee and manage all aspects of the school's 1:1 PK-12 student device program
  • Oversee and manage classroom technology and faculty devices
  • Oversee and manage MDF and IDF locations (approximately 10) on campus
  • Oversee wireless infrastructure
  • Manage Google Workspace for Education services and devices for the organization. Ensure that the Google Workspace environment is secure, efficient, and tailored to the specific needs of the users
  • Onboard and Offboard users in Google systems
  • Manage technical resources and perform hands-on assistance in the troubleshooting and resolution of hardware, software, and connectivity issues
  • Maintain a commitment to excellent service, best practice and regulatory standards
  • Provide technical guidance and manage activities of the infrastructure and technical support team in the support of both daily tasks and new technology related projects
  • Collaborate with the Director of Educational Technology and the technology integration team to develop and deliver technology services
  • Prepare and manage the infrastructure and network resources budget
  • Lead the design, delivery and support of core network, wired and wireless platforms
  • Facilitate the management and implementation of a long-range technology plan in support of Penn Charter's mission and strategic plan
  • Provide data infrastructure leadership for technology projects and new construction
  • Collaborate with leaders across the schoolhouse to ensure delivery of timely, high-quality technology infrastructure and network services
  • Establish and maintain vendor relationships necessary to ensure that all systems perform as designed.
  • Develop and implement internal policies, procedures and planning to ensure legal compliance for the use of technology
  • Monitor, evaluate and implement best practices for optimum performance of devices on the network infrastructure
  • Assess new computing technologies to determine potential value for the organization
  • Ensure IT system operation adheres to applicable laws and regulations
  • Establish best technology practices in meeting and maintaining compliance with cybersecurity insurance agency
  • Ensure continuous delivery of IT services through oversight of service level agreements with end users and monitoring of IT systems performance
  • Keep current with trends in the IT industry, including current technologies and prices
  • Advise, counsel, and educate leadership and management on such trends applicable to Penn Charter's learning environment
  • Implement best network and device practices which mitigate cyber incidents
  • Assist and work closely with the HR department regarding composing job descriptions for new direct report positions
  • Implement the current technology plan and coordinate ongoing revisions to ensure that technology is leveraged to enhance teaching and learning
  • Manage and deploy print services
  • Maintain virtual and physical servers and firewall
  • Other duties as assigned by the Chief Operations Officer or their designee

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field; Master's degree preferred
  • 5 years experience in a leadership role within IT

  • Experience with administering G-suite applications and Blackbaud
  • Experience with JAMF or related mobile device management
  • Competent in all security matters
  • Ability to visualize and set long term direction
