Job Summary

Reporting to the Vice President, Business Development, the Business Development Manager will lead and manage the sourcing, evaluation, negotiation, and assimilation of new business opportunities including mergers, asset acquisitions, divestitures and other commercial endeavors. They will develop, articulate, and implement innovative strategies to optimize the portfolio and drive corporate growth. The Business Development Manager will exhibit strong commercial skills gained in an upstream oil and gas environment.

The Business Development Manager will work in our Houston Corporate office and may work up to 2 days per week remotely.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a funnel of opportunities including assets, companies and other commercial ventures
  • Perform detailed commercial analysis to evaluate the risk, uncertainty, value and strategic impact of opportunities in the funnel
  • Coordinate the inclusion of new business opportunities into the Long-Range Plan to determine commercial and financial implications for Murphy Oil Corporation
  • Present informed recommendations to senior and executive management
  • Lead commercial negotiations, including the negotiation of definitive agreements including but not limited to sale and purchase, farm-in and joint operating agreements
  • Establish strong relationships with internal business leaders and coordinate large multi-disciplinary project teams consisting of individuals from across the organization
  • Develop and maintain relationships with external stakeholders including investment bankers and industry leaders
  • Continue to be well informed of market data and industry trends
  • Provide mentorship within the department
  • Perform any other related duties as required
Qualifications/Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, geoscience, finance or other technical discipline
  • Minimum 15 years' experience in upstream oil and gas with 5 years in a supervisory role
  • Merger & Acquisition experience with a track record working commercial projects in the upstream oil and gas sector
  • Offshore, onshore, North American and International experience is essential
  • Domestic (10%) and/or international travel (20%) will be required from time to time
The individual is required to follow all applicable safety precautions. Work is performed almost entirely in a controlled (i.e., inside) environment and does not typically subject the incumbent to any hazardous/extreme elements; some positions may require regularly moving or transporting items weighing up to 25 lbs. around the office or various needs. The successful candidate must be able to complete all essential physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
