Procure respective commodity and requisitioned materials to support the sales plan, production schedule and general business operations. Manage complex, high impact projects related to the procurement of business critical materials and commodities Leads purchasing and procurement activities to support corporate projects. Works with suppliers to provide quality materials or services, adequate supply and assure competitive pricing. Essential Duties Responsible for sourcing negotiating, procuring and managing multiple commodities for new product development and/or base business maintenance. Manages relationships with critical suppliers to the business. Manages contract manufacturer relationships for assigned projects. Resolves material and scheduling issues when necessary. Responsible for planning CMO's and regular supplier meetings with scorecard review. Responsible for planning at the finished goods level for commercial product. Assist in development of supply chain analytics. Represent the Procurement department in coordinating with Product Development or Project Management to identify and manage New Product Development Projects. Provides leadership and technical procurement advice to cross functional project teams. Responsible for managing multiple, complex projects and developing a supply base to meet corporate objectives. Assists with providing commodity and/or process knowledge to Procurement personnel as well as internal customers. Completes necessary risk analysis research in support of business' critical projects, identifying potential solutions for mitigating risk. Identifies and implements opportunities and/or processes to support Continuous Improvement initiatives. Review MRP and MRO requisitions to identify order and expedite commodity or services in support of the production schedule, cash flow, or other requirements. Monitor and report exceptions to the delivery schedule to the Procurement and Sourcing Manager and/or other designated individuals. Maintain cost control, delivery schedules and inventory levels based on desired goals and objectives. Maintenance of SAP Purchasing systems including but not limited to the following: order entry, vendor records, info records, source lists and material masters. Coordinate with other departments to maintain accurate Bill of Materials (BOM's). Resolution of invoice discrepancies and quality issues (SCAR's) to ensure a continued supply of quality materials for production or other business uses. Recovery of costs for rejected materials and labor where applicable. Control and communication of but, not limited to the following: approved artwork and packaging specifications, COA's/COC's and regulatory information. Provide purchasing forecast to suppliers and manage supplier reviews. Proficient in the use of SAP. May mentor or provide indirect leadership to Sr. Procurement Specialist or Procurement Specialist, as needed. Attends supplier shows and conferences to source new products and manufactures. Perform other duties as directed by the Procurement & Sourcing Manager. Requirements Bachelor's degree in business/Technical field. 10+ years Buyer, Purchasing Agent or Procurement experience in pharmaceutical, cosmetic or related industry. Cross functional, project team experience required. SAP experience required. Ability to negotiate. Strong communication skills. Knowledge of common law, Uniform Commercial Code, traffic law, and compliance with anti-trust laws. Knowledge of pharmaceutical production processes and equipment. Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices and Regulatory requirements. Knowledge of and adherence to published Upsher-Smith Standard Operating Procedure, policies and safety practices. Ability to read and utilize an MRP report. Membership in Purchasing Management Association desired. Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM) certificate desired. Travel up to 25%.
