Summary
Development, coordination and direction of the operation of the stroke program in conjunction with the stroke medical director. Oversees the execution of and adherence to proper clinical practice guidelines and develops and/or administers performance improvement initiatives for the program. Assumes responsibility for program quality and compliance, and the education and competency of nursing staff. Serves as a clinical and educational consultant to the nursing staff, medical staff, management, patients and other members of the health care team regarding the program.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Planning, coordination, education, and ongoing evaluation of the Stroke program and the stroke patient care continuum throughout the health system and community.
  • Assures development and routine review and revision of stroke center policies and procedures, clinical practice guidelines as well as order set revisions and updates.
  • Serves as a clinical resource for physicians and nurses participating in the care of stroke patients by providing stroke education to members of the health care team based on best practice guidelines.
  • Represents the stroke program within the health system and at appropriate committees and meetings.
  • Creation, implementation and monitoring of process improvement activities for stroke program.
  • Organizes and leads quarterly Stroke Organization Committee meetings.
  • Coordinates with Tele-Health to evaluate stroke data and correlate metrics and data for stroke program.
  • Abstraction and verification of data for submission to the state stroke registry.
  • Participation in regional stroke committees and meetings.
  • Collaboration with local EMS on care of stroke patients in the region including bi annual education.
  • Community outreach and education related to stroke awareness and prevention.
  • Participates as member of the nursing staff within the Emergency Department and maintains all competencies as Staff Nurse Emergency Department.
  • Interprets assessment data to prioritize treatment needs.
  • Implements and evaluates individual plan of care.
  • Prioritizes and assesses patient acuity and treatment modalities.
  • Communicates discharge instructions and teaching.
  • Possesses effective communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  • Utilizes equipment properly.
  • Participates in departmental growth and development.
  • Pursues professional growth.
  • Follows patient care standards.
  • Ability to work standby.
  • Demonstrates System Values in performance and behavior.
  • Complies with System policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education/Experience
Associate's Degree Degree from college or vocational school from a National League of Nursing (NLN), Commission on
Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) or equivalent accredited school of nursing. The nurse shall have completed a nursing education program that included clinical experiences with actual patients under the supervision of qualified faculty.

1-2 years relevant experience

California Registered Nurse (RN) - Upon hire

Nevada Registered Nurse (RN) - Upon hire

Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) - Within 6 months of hire into job

Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers - Upon hire

Pediatric Advanced Life Support - Upon hire

Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support - Upon hire

BLS/ACLS/PALS: Employee will be enrolled in the Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI) Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Life Support (ALS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Entry or Prep Curriculum (depending on their previous BLS, ACLS, and/or PALS certification). - Within 3 months of hire into job

Required:
  • Demonstrates strong analytical skills; strong communication skills; excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize requests and assignments.
  • Three years of clinical experience in emergency care.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective interpersonal relationships
Preferred:
  • Competence in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
