Senior Intellectual Property (IP) Manager for Print, Legal

Description -

The Senior IP Manager will effectively collaborate with key stakeholders across HP's PrintOrganization and oversee all activity related to patents, trade secrets and IP transactions. This role will have the following specific responsibilities:

  • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of IP professionals, who are responsible for global patent filings, prosecution, IP transactional matters, and IP strategy for HP's Print Organization.
  • Provides strong leadership, driving change initiatives and monitoring performance goals.
  • Performs talent management responsibilities including recruitment, performance management, coaching and career development.
  • Manages the development of patent strategies by providing specialized legal expertise in one or more areas of strategic importance or having significant impact on revenue, risk, or policy for client base.
  • Collaborates with and counsels HP's Print businesses on key IP issues, including negotiating key IP agreements such as R&D partnerships etc.
  • Supports others in the IP and Legal teams around critical patent pre-litigation and litigation conversations as well as M&A activities.
  • May participate in cross-divisional and multi-functional teams.
Preferred Experience:
  • Proven leadership experience with the ability to manage and inspire a team.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a budget aggressively and effectively.
  • Extensive experience managing multiple, complex, strategic, specialty law projects, issues, and transactions.
  • Track record of delivering exceptional results.
  • Meaningful operational and program management experience.
Education and Experience Required:
  • Advanced university degree in law (e.g., JD or LLB);
  • Qualified patent attorney in a relevant jurisdiction.
  • Meets local legal license requirements.
  • Typically, 7-10 years patent experience at a law firm or in-house.


Knowledge and Skills:
  • Deep knowledge of company policies, procedures, and practices relevant to IP.
  • Developed understanding of how to operate successfully in the international legal environment for IP.
  • Routinely exercises independent judgment in developing methods, techniques, and criteria for achieving objectives
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work across multiple functions and effectively influence without authority.
  • Operates with the highest level of professionalism and integrity
  • Sensitive to diversity and cultural differences
  • Winning attitude and have or develop a growth mindset and passion for continuous learning, development, and improvement.
  • Excellent presentation, facilitation, and networking skills.
  • English language skills to business standard required.
