The Director plays an integral role in executing the Office’s vision identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding prospects and donors with a particular focus on planned giving and complex gift strategies. This position participates in the administration and strategic direction of the Office of Planned Giving and Philanthropic Strategies and plays a vital role in promoting planned giving across the University. Incumbent serves as the second-in-command of the Planned Giving and Philanthropic Strategies team, playing a vital role in the Office’s current and future operations and growth. Incumbent also collaborates with and provides technical expertise in all aspects of planned giving, including the tax and charitable components, to colleagues and prospective and current donors as well as their advisors and families. Specific Responsibilities: Represents the Planned Giving and Philanthropic Strategies team across the nation and campus, and steps in for the Executive Director on occasions when the ED is unavailable. Provides expertise and guidance on all aspects of planned giving and charitable giving rooted in illiquid, alternative, and complex assets. Closes or facilitates the closure of significant gifts of seven and eight-figure gifts in support of Brown University. Collaborates with gift officers and internal constituencies to support complex planned giving conversations across the University. Partners, coaches, equips, and encourages colleagues in the pursuit of planned giving opportunities while assisting in the design and implementation of gifts and individualized donor strategies. Assists in team administration, including, but not limited to: gift documentation, estate administration, CGA registrations, stewardship and administration of the University’s pooled income funds, and charitable trusts. Organizes and conducts internal training on charitable planning, gift planning vehicles, and tax-wise philanthropic strategies. Maintaining technical expertise while staying current on tax and other legislative changes that impact donors and planned giving. Job Qualifications: Education and Experience:

Minimum of 7 years of experience in a related field such as tax, estate planning, planned giving, or the equivalent (may include both professional experience and relevant advanced education). Advanced degree or study in a related field (business administration, tax, or law) or rigorous professional designation (CPA, CFA, securities license) is required. Required Qualifications:

Proven ability to solicit high-level gifts or equivalent proven experience, particularly in relationship and trust building, in another field. High ethical standards of behavior, sound judgment, thoughtfulness, respect for confidential personal information, and attention to detail. Ability to work with and command the respect of faculty, senior officers, and other high-level volunteers. Excellent interpersonal skills. Excellent organizational and time-management skills. Demonstrated project management and problem-solving skills, including organizational skills to meet goals and objectives through effective program and project planning. Meticulous attention to detail. Skilled analytical and strategic thinking capabilities. Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge of PG Calc planned gift software. Knowledge of and commitment to the values and mission of higher education. Demonstrated commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB), including experience/ability to identify and emphasize diverse perspectives in programming, communications, and strategy. Superlative written and verbal communication skills. Entrepreneurial spirit coupled with excellent judgment and risk assessment. Strategic mindset for developing and implementing short and long-term goals. Ability to handle multiple assignments and changing priorities as circumstances develop. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively. Computing proficiency, including MS Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint, and the ability to use technology to gather, interpret, and organize data.
