The Director of EHS and Risk Management will be a motivated professional that will lead, create, develop, implement, and manage elements of a company-wide environmental health, safety and risk management program. We are looking for a responsible, motivated, seasoned professional with comprehensive experience operating independently and managing risk, environmental, health and safety matters across Kelso.

Develop and implement Kelso’s Environmental, Health, Safety (EHS) and Risk Management standards. Develop and direct the strategy regarding current trends in risk management and loss control. Manage the commercial insurance program, including cost/benefit analysis of program alternatives. Ensure that Kelso is proactively working to create responsible safety and environmental policies that improve Kelso’s safety and compliance culture. Provide guidance, counsel and direction to management that will build long-term value by identifying, developing and implementing strategic environmental and safety initiatives that establish external competitive advantages. Oversee organizational compliance with OSHA and EPA regulations and any local, state, and federal requirements. Delegate workforce EHS training delivery and content development. Make critical decisions regarding workers' compensation claims, injury management, and return-to-work strategies. Direct the management of environmental risk. Coordinate and engage with regulatory agencies as required. Implement tools that build and improve upon EHS culture. Ensure emergency response programs are in place and maintained. Develop key performance indicators and critical metrics for the company as they relate to EHS and risk management. Collaborate with safety leaders across the company to continuously improve upon EHS matters. Set strategy for waste management, environmental permitting, and monitoring. Conduct periodic presentations to senior leadership on company EHS performance. Keep abreast of any changes to laws and regulations that impact the organization. Ensure EHS projects are completed on time and within budget. Partner with field staff and management to maintain the necessary documentation to comply with client, company, and government regulations. Ensure completion of required OSHA recordkeeping and reporting. Mentor safety managers/leads to enable them to achieve a high level of proficiency of independence within their own safety programs. Identify opportunities to minimize workplace injuries, accidents, and health problems. Conduct employee trainings in multiple areas, including applicable safety standards, safety culture, etc. Conduct safety inspections and audits to assess employee compliance with safety regulations. Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS: Seeking an EHS professional with 15 years of experience, ideally with at least three years in the construction industry. Experience related to EHS and regulatory laws and compliance are also a strong plus. Extensive knowledge of current company safety policies and applicable Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards. Advanced knowledge of environmental policy, laws and regulations. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to conduct trainings. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Strong supervisory and leadership skills. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software. Experience conducting OSHA investigations, including drafting responses and appropriate documentation. Valid driver's license required. Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with government agencies, trade groups and other industries. Management skills including the ability to establish objectives, develop and execute policy, direct and monitor resources, and recommend and oversee development or implementation of systems, programs, or processes.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times Ability to travel to various divisions and worksites as needed (travel will be approximately 50%)
