Job Summary In collaboration with the Research Pharmacy/Allergy Assistant Director, this manager position will participate and lead in the direction, supervision, and provision of Research Pharmacy (RP) operations. They will be responsible for developing, improving, and overseeing the clinical trials services provided by the RP related to study management, including activation and open study maintenance. Responsibilities Provides oversight of the day-to-day study management activities associated with the RP portfolio. Participates in assessing the feasibility of new studies. Work closely with the RP pharmacist leads, RP Portfolio Coordinator, CTSU finance, and coordinator teams. Partners with stakeholders to ensure alignment with wider research enterprise mission and priorities. Ensures that all services are performed in accordance with hospital, departmental, and governmental policies, procedures, and regulations. Ensures all related quality assurance and distribution activities are performed and documented. Performs RP duties and responsibilities on an as needed frequency. Work collaboratively with physician and leadership teams to develop and implement quality improvement and process improvements to improve patient care and RP services. Perform human resource management responsibilities including the authority to hire, terminate, or promote assigned employees. Provide impact on budgeting, controlling costs, planning, scheduling, and procedural change. Perform management duties that include interviewing, selecting, and training of employees; planning and directing their work; appraising their productivity and efficiency for the purpose of recommending promotions or other changes in their status; handling their complaints and grievances and disciplining them when necessary. Provide personnel supervision over assigned staff. Coordinate the selection, direction, training and discipline of technicians and pharmacists that report directly to this position, including area specific coordinators and other assigned staff. Ensure regulatory compliance with all institutional, state, and federal requirements for the conduct of clinical research and provision of pharmacy services. Contribute to the education, training and professional development of University of Michigan College of Pharmacy students and interns through support of on-site clinical experiences and internships. Lead the initiative to validate, review, and document the competence of assigned technical staff providing pharmacy services. Contribute to the education, training, professional development, and assessment of subordinate staff. Coordinate and validate that all subordinate staff are oriented and competent. Direct the development of individual performance plans for the pharmacy staff, review of staff performance, and addressing personnel issues. Lead the initiative for staff development through the provision of continuing education endeavors and staff training for new functions. Conduct or participate in research, drug use projects, cost reduction/management initiatives, and quality improvement activities consistent with Michigan Medicine’s goals and objectives. Contribute to the maintenance of TJC and other regulatory required programs and documentation including preparation for accreditation surveys. Assist with identifying and implementing new programs and services. Conduct/participate in routine staff meetings for team and pharmacists as assigned. Liaise with the applicable stakeholders, including CTSO partners and applicable interdisciplinary leadership and committees. Develop, implement, and monitor metrics for workload balance. Facilitate study activation in RP. Provide functional oversight, including authority to guide, coach, and provide feedback to RP pharmacists and RP Portfolio Coordinator(s) related to study management activities; identify behavioral related issues, and if not resolved through discussion, then escalate to Assistant Director for additional follow-up. Other Related Duties Comply with all University of Michigan and departmental standards and expectations. Support the department’s commitment to continuous improvement activities and principles through positive and respectful contribution in all problem-solving and change processes within the Infusion Pharmacy Department. Participate in department committees and work teams as assigned. Assume responsibility for personal growth and development and maintains and upgrades professional knowledge and practice skills through attendance and participation in continuing education and in-service classes. Assure ability to meet all the above qualifications and requirements with or without reasonable accommodation. Perform other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications Licensure in good standing, or immediate eligibility for Licensure, as a Registered Pharmacist with an active controlled substance license in the State of Michigan. Doctor of Pharmacy degree or Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy with one-year residency or fellowship or equivalent clinical experience. 3 to 5+ years' pharmacy experience. General office work physical demands. Desired Qualifications 1 to 2+ years' pharmacy experience in a supervisory position. 1 to 2+ years' pharmacy experience in a research pharmacy position. Proficient in operating within the Windows environment with experience in use of the following software: Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Access. Work Schedule The expectation would be that this team member work primarily day shift alongside team (08:30 – 17:00) with on-call responsibilities. Work Locations This position will oversee team members on Michigan Medicine’s main hospital campus in Ann Arbor, MI in the University Hospital. Modes of Work Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Additional Information Must comply with all Michigan Medicine Occupational Health requirements including annual flu immunization. Supervision Received General supervision is received from the RP Assistant Director. Supervision Exercised Functional and/or administrative supervision is exercised over RP Team Leads, pharmacists, RP portfolio coordinators, pharmacy residents, pharmacy technicians, students, and other staff performing delegated research pharmacy services.
