Summary

Specialty Pharmacy Services a growing list of patient populations, including Transplant, Hepatitis, Multiple Sclerosis, Rheumatology, and Oncology. Our team is dedicated to supporting our patients comprehensively throughout their entire treatment process. We strive to do so by providing timely and continuous financial counseling, clinical education, and mail-order medication deliveries.

Specialty Pharmacy Technicians work within either the Call Center or Distribution Operations. Requirements, duties, and responsibilities respectively. Cross coverage and movement between teams is possible dependent on departmental and patient care needs.

Responsibilities*

Pharmacy Technician duties may include:

Call Center Staff
  • Must have excellent customer service skills, including listening, verbal, and written communication.
  • Monitor multiple queues for order entry and processing.
  • Answer incoming and complete outgoing calls from/to patients, prescribers, insurance PBMs, and outside pharmacies.
  • Work closely with clinical, medication access, and distribution teams to ensure timely patient care.
  • Should have experience in retail or mail order pharmacy setting. Experience in typing prescriptions and claims preferred.
  • Document all patient interactions in appropriate systems and databases.
  • Position has the potential for hybrid after completion of onsite-only training period. Hybrid schedule is set by leadership and subject to change based on departmental needs.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Distribution Staff
  • Prepare non-sterile compound medications.
  • Prepare medications for shipment.
  • Assist in the stocking and storage of inventory.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications*

Senior/Intermediate/Associate Level:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid Michigan Pharmacy Technician License on or before hire date, verifiable through the State of Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs.
  • Proficient communication, computer, and basic mathematic skills are necessary.
  • Must be able to prioritize with accuracy and dependability.
  • Reliability and punctuality are .
  • Desire and ability to work in a fast-past, growing environment and be a team player.
Desired Qualifications*
  • At least one year technician experience or completion of a Pharmacy technician training program.
  • Basic algebra.
  • Proficient computer skills. MiChart, QS1, Jabber/Finesse, Microsoft Suite program knowledge all a plus.
Licensure & Certification

The State of Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) requires all Pharmacy Technicians to be licensed. The new regulations allow for a one-time temporary license for up to 1 year, during which time a technician must successfully complete requirements to become certified and meet all other State of Michigan requirements for a Full Pharmacy Technician License. UMHS Pharmacy Department provides coaching and additional information to support technicians to become certified and licensed.

Work Schedule

This is a day shift position Monday through Friday with business hours from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Closed weekends and holidays.
