Summary Description Of Position
Perform day to day financial accounting duties for Alimera and its subsidiary companies; manage current monthly close process; assist in the preparation of internal and external reports. This position will require strong communication skills, knowledge of accounting and a great attention to detail. The Senior Accountant relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. This role is responsible for assisting in the preparation of external and internal financial reports and assists in the monthly financial close process. The successful candidate will work with others in the finance department, external auditors, and other professionals in carrying out his or her responsibilities. Experience in researching accounting issues, interpreting U.S. GAAP rules, and CPA designation is preferred.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Prepare and maintain accounting transactions and records for applicable compliance obligations
Assist in the preparation and completion of monthly close procedures
Prepare monthly reconciliations by collecting, analyzing and summarizing account information
Assist in the preparation of technical accounting position memo’s
Assist in the preparation of quarterly 10Q and yearly 10K reporting
Understanding of Section 404 of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX 404) and assist with Internal Control testing and Audits
Work with outside auditors to comply with quarterly review and annual audit requirements
Other projects and duties are assigned as business needs require
Ensures that all documentation complies with company’s regulations
Education & Work Experience
BA and/or MBA in Accounting, Finance, or Economics from an accredited university
Hold a license as a Certified Public Accountant, or be qualified to take the CPA examination
Strong understanding and application of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and financial close process
SEC reporting experience preferred
Experience auditing public companies with a major CPA firm.
Familiarity with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures
Excellent analytical skills, including intermediate use of excel
Excellent planning, organizational and time management skills
Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS
General office working conditions which may, at times, be fast paced and stressful. Travel may be required.
