General Description

Project Description: This study seeks to understand the dynamic complexity underlying acculturative stress and mental well-being among Ghanaian immigrants living in New York City.

The project consists of a) a community advisory board; b) interviews/surveys with community members; c) community listening sessions; and d) a pilot intervention.

For this project, we are seeking 8-10 part-time community event staff to support project activities such as community meetings between May 1, and July 31, 2024.

Other Duties

Primary Responsibilities:

Specific duties include (but may not be limited to):
  • Participate in team meetings and training sessions.
  • Travel to event spaces in the 5 borough (5 events total, 1 per borough)
  • Set up event space, including AV equipment, food/beverages, registration table, etc.
  • Staff the registration table and collect basic information about participants and obtain oral consent
  • Support group discussions as facilitator and note-taker
  • Distribute program materials and participant incentives.
  • Perform other duties associated with community meetings as needed.
Qualifications

Qualifications:
  • Graduate or undergraduate student pursuing a degree in public health, community health, psychology, nursing, social work, or related fields.
  • Articulate and tactful communication skills; readiness to meet and work directly with community members and research participants.
  • Experience working in immigrant communities is essential. Experience working with African immigrants is desirable.
  • Ability to follow research protocol, and handle and protect confidential and sensitive data with integrity.
  • Must be able to travel to locations in all five boroughs for special events on weekends both as necessary.
  • Community event staff will work in teams of 5-8.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of or familiarity with community-based participatory research methods (E.g., interviews, focus groups, town halls, and advisory boards).
  • Experience and comfort using REDCap, Google Forms, or other survey tools, as well as mobile hotspots, iPads, and digital recorders.
  • Experience serving as group discussion facilitator and/or note taker
  • Knowledge of and/or experience collaborating with the African immigrant community.
  • Completion of CITI training courses in social and behavioral research with human subjects is required for all staff and volunteers involved in this project. CUNY Provides free access to the needed CITI trainings and refresher courses as needed.
Virtual training on May 2nd, 2024, 7-9PM

Pay and Benefits:

This position is hourly, anticipated 15 hours per person between May 1, and July 31, 2024. Pay $20/hr. Paid training and meetings. This position is not eligible for a benefits package. Travel via public transportation will be covered.
